Amsterdam to Seoul (AMS–ICN) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Dutch passport holders enter South Korea visa-free for up to 90 days. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. Complete the K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) at k-eta.go.kr before travel. The K-ETA costs KRW 10,000 (about EUR 7), is valid for 2 years, and processing takes 24 to 72 hours. Some nationalities are temporarily exempt from K-ETA through 2025, but Dutch nationals should apply to avoid issues at boarding.

At Incheon International Airport (ICN), go through the standard immigration counter. Automated gates (SES) are available if you register in person at the airport immigration office on a previous visit. The 90-day stay cannot be extended under the visa-free arrangement. For longer stays, apply for a visa at the Korean Embassy in The Hague.

Direct flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to Seoul Incheon run about 10 hours 30 minutes on KLM and Korean Air (SkyTeam partners). South Korea uses the Korean won (KRW), trading at roughly 1,500 KRW per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere, including street food vendors and convenience stores. T-money or WOWPASS cards work on Seoul metro, buses, and taxis. A single Seoul metro ride costs KRW 1,400 (about EUR 0.95). Airport Railroad Express (AREX) from Incheon to Seoul Station takes 43 minutes and costs KRW 9,500 (about EUR 6.30). No mandatory vaccinations. South Korea is 8 hours ahead of the Netherlands in summer, 7 hours in winter.

Intercity and Sprinter trains run directly to Schiphol Plaza (the station is inside the terminal) from Amsterdam Centraal every 10–15 minutes (15 min, €5.70). The Intercity Direct from Rotterdam takes 43 minutes (€17.40 with supplement). Trains from The Hague take 35–45 minutes.

Taxis from central Amsterdam cost €35–50 and take 20–35 minutes. Highway A4 is frequently congested during morning rush. Bus 397 runs from Amsterdam Leidseplein to Schiphol (30 min, €5.50) for a cheaper landside alternative.

AREX Direct Train to Seoul Station (43 min, ₩11,000) is a reserved-seat express. The All-Stop train serves Hongik University, City Hall, and other inner-city stations (66 min, ₩4,550). T2 passengers board at a dedicated T2 stop before T1; don't exit early. City Check-in at Seoul Station allows bag drop and boarding pass printing before the train for select airlines.Limousine buses serve major hotel zones and neighborhoods (₩16,000–18,000). Taxis from ICN to central Seoul cost ₩65,000–90,000; use only official orange (general) or black (deluxe) cabs from the designated stands. KakaoTaxi (ride-hail) operates from the airport.

Humid continental climate. Winters are cold and dry (−8 to 2°C, December–February) with occasional snow and wind chill. ICN handles snow well, though heavy falls delay operations. Summer monsoon (Changma) runs late June through July with heavy continuous rain. Typhoons can affect operations August–September with short notice.

Spring brings Yellow Dust (hwangsa) from China. Fine particulate storms reduce visibility and occasionally disrupt flights in March–April. Autumn (October–November) is the best flying season: clear skies, low humidity, 8–18°C. Pack layers for spring and fall. Summer is hot and humid (25–32°C).
