Istanbul to Seoul (IST–ICN) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Turkish passport holders enter South Korea visa-free for up to 30 days. No advance application is needed, and the K-ETA requirement has been suspended for Turkish nationals through December 31, 2025, with extensions possible. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. A return or onward ticket may be requested at immigration.

At Incheon International Airport (ICN), immigration takes fingerprints and a photo. The 30-day visa-free stay covers tourism and short business visits. For longer stays or work purposes, apply for the appropriate visa at the Korean Embassy in Ankara before departure. Turkey and South Korea have strong bilateral ties reinforced by Korean War history, and Korean immigration processes Turkish travelers efficiently.

Turkish Airlines operates direct flights from Istanbul (IST) to Incheon in about 10 hours 30 minutes. Korean Air also flies the route. South Korea uses the Korean won (KRW), trading at roughly 40 KRW per TRY 1. T-money cards work on all Seoul metro lines, buses, and taxis at KRW 1,400 per metro ride. Card payments work everywhere in South Korea. ATMs at airports and convenience stores (CU, GS25) accept international cards. Seoul metro signage is in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese.

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.

AREX Direct Train to Seoul Station (43 min, ₩11,000) is a reserved-seat express. The All-Stop train serves Hongik University, City Hall, and other inner-city stations (66 min, ₩4,550). T2 passengers board at a dedicated T2 stop before T1; don't exit early. City Check-in at Seoul Station allows bag drop and boarding pass printing before the train for select airlines.Limousine buses serve major hotel zones and neighborhoods (₩16,000–18,000). Taxis from ICN to central Seoul cost ₩65,000–90,000; use only official orange (general) or black (deluxe) cabs from the designated stands. KakaoTaxi (ride-hail) operates from the airport.

Humid continental climate. Winters are cold and dry (−8 to 2°C, December–February) with occasional snow and wind chill. ICN handles snow well, though heavy falls delay operations. Summer monsoon (Changma) runs late June through July with heavy continuous rain. Typhoons can affect operations August–September with short notice.

Spring brings Yellow Dust (hwangsa) from China. Fine particulate storms reduce visibility and occasionally disrupt flights in March–April. Autumn (October–November) is the best flying season: clear skies, low humidity, 8–18°C. Pack layers for spring and fall. Summer is hot and humid (25–32°C).
