Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry (though some reports suggest validity for the duration of stay is sufficient for Japanese nationals, having 6 months avoids any questions). One blank page required. A return or onward ticket is needed.
At Taiwan Taoyuan (TPE) or Songshan (TSA), automated e-Gates are available for Japanese passport holders who have entered Taiwan at least once. First-time visitors register biometrics at the manned counters. Peak hours at TPE Terminal 1 (budget carriers) can mean 20 to 40 minutes at immigration. Terminal 2 (full-service carriers) is faster. No proof of funds or accommodation is requested for Japanese nationals.
Direct flights from Tokyo Narita and Haneda to Taipei Taoyuan run about 4 hours on China Airlines, EVA Air, ANA, JAL, Peach, and Scoot.
