Istanbul to Copenhagen (IST–CPH) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Turkish passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Denmark. Apply at the Danish Embassy in Ankara or VFS Global center in Istanbul. The visa allows stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area. Required documents include passport photos, bank statements, flight bookings, hotel reservations or a host invitation letter, and travel insurance covering at least EUR 30,000. The fee is EUR 90 for adults. Processing takes 10 to 15 working days. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area.

Denmark has a Turkish community of over 70,000 residents, concentrated in Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Odense. If visiting family, include the host's Danish CPR number, residence permit copy, and a signed invitation letter. The Greenland and Faroe Islands are part of the Kingdom of Denmark but are not in the Schengen area, so a separate visa may be required for travel to those territories.

Direct flights from Istanbul (IST) to Copenhagen (CPH) run about 3 hours 15 minutes on Turkish Airlines and SAS. Multiple daily departures. Denmark uses the Danish krone (DKK), pegged closely to the euro at roughly 7.46 DKK per EUR 1, trading at roughly 5.1 DKK per TRY 1. Card payments work everywhere and many businesses do not accept cash. At Copenhagen Airport, the metro reaches the city center in 15 minutes for DKK 39 (TRY 275). A Copenhagen Card costs DKK 489 for 24 hours (TRY 3,450) and includes transit plus entry to 80 attractions. Without the card, a 24-hour transit pass costs DKK 80 (TRY 564).

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.

The Metro M2 runs every 4–6 minutes from the airport station to central Copenhagen (15 min, DKK 36 on Rejsekort). DSB regional trains depart for Copenhagen Central Station (13 min) and continue to Malmö (Sweden) via the Øresund Bridge (35 min total from airport). Taxis from arrivals to the city centre cost DKK 250–350; Uber also operates.Terminal 3 (international) and Terminal 2 (domestic/Schengen) are connected by a covered walkway. Rental car desks are in Terminal 3 arrivals. CPH is also a ferry hub; routes to Oslo (DFDS) and Bornholm depart from Copenhagen's harbour, accessible via city transit.

Temperate maritime climate. Winters (November–February) are cold and frequently overcast at −2 to 5°C with rain, sleet, and occasional snow. Copenhagen is better prepared for winter operations than many European cities, but heavy snowfall still causes delays. Fog is a seasonal disruption risk, particularly October through January.

Summers (June–August) are mild and pleasant at 18–24°C with long daylight hours and generally good flying conditions. Wind from the southwest can be strong year-round. CPH has a crosswind reputation. Spring and autumn are transitional and variable.
