Irish passport holders enter the United States visa-free under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) for stays up to 90 days. An approved ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is required before boarding. The ESTA costs $21, is valid for 2 years or until the passport expires (whichever comes first), and covers multiple entries. Passport must be an ePassport (biometric chip, all current Irish passports qualify). No supporting documents are formally required for ESTA approval, but CBP officers at the port of entry may ask for proof of onward travel, accommodation details, and sufficient funds. The 90-day VWP stay cannot be extended and does not allow a change of immigration status. If you need more than 90 days, apply for a B-1/B-2 visa at the US Embassy in Dublin (MRV fee $185, interview wait times vary from 1 to 6 weeks).

Direct flights from Dublin to the US serve New York (JFK/EWR), Boston, Chicago, Washington Dulles, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and several others, running 7 to 10 hours. Shannon also has direct US routes. US Customs and Border Protection preclearance operates at Dublin and Shannon, meaning you clear US immigration before boarding and arrive as a domestic passenger. The US dollar is the only currency. No vaccination requirements for Irish arrivals.

Dublin Bus route 747 (Airlink) runs from the city centre (O'Connell Street) to the airport in 30–50 minutes, costing €7 one-way or €12 return. DART rail does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station requires a bus connection. Ride-shares from the city centre typically cost €20–35 depending on traffic.

The M50 and M1 motorways feed into the airport; short-term parking in Terminal 1 or 2 costs from €4/30 min, while long-stay lots (P3/P4) are significantly cheaper for multi-day trips. Allow extra time during morning and evening rush hours on the M50.

Taxis and ride-shares dominate ground transport. A metered taxi to the Strip costs $20–30; to downtown Las Vegas ("Fremont Street area"), $20–25. Ride-shares are comparable or slightly cheaper.Hotel casino shuttles serve major properties. No rail connects the airport to the Strip. Rental car facilities are at the CONRAC facility adjacent to the terminals, accessible by shuttle. Tunnel project (LVCC Loop) does not serve the airport.

Hot desert climate. Summers are intensely hot (38–45°C) with low humidity. Heat itself rarely disrupts flights, but monsoonal afternoon thunderstorms from July through September can produce brief but severe delays. Microbursts and lightning strikes ground aircraft quickly.

Winters are mild and sunny (5–15°C) with rare frost. Snow is unusual but possible in January and February. Spring dust storms (haboobs) can reduce visibility rapidly. The airport sits at 2,181 feet; thin air affects aircraft performance on extremely hot days.
