Getting to RDU

No rail connection exists. GoTriangle Route 100 (RDU Express) runs from the Durham Station Transportation Center and downtown Raleigh to the airport for $2.25; takes 35–50 minutes but service is limited in the evenings and does not run all night.Ride-shares (Uber/Lyft) from downtown Raleigh: $20–30, 20–25 minutes. From Durham: $18–25, 15–20 minutes. Taxis: $30–40. Long-term parking from $7/day in Economy lots with shuttle service. I-40 provides direct access to both Raleigh and Durham.

Getting from AMS

Trains depart directly from inside the terminal (Schiphol Plaza) to Amsterdam Centraal every 10–15 minutes (15 min, €5.70). Direct intercity trains also serve Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Eindhoven without requiring transfers. NS Hispeed connects to Brussels (1h 50m) and Paris CDG (3h 20m).

Taxis use a meter; Amsterdam Centraal costs €35–50. Ride-hail apps (Uber, Bolt) are cheaper at €25–40. Car rental agencies are at the terminal. Bus 397 to Leidseplein is the budget option (€5.50).

Amsterdam Climate

Temperate maritime climate, mild and frequently overcast year-round. Winters are cold (0–7°C) with regular rain and occasional snow or freezing fog. AMS handles de-icing efficiently but heavy snowfall (rare) causes cascading delays across the network. Fog is the primary winter disruption risk, particularly November through February.
