Dublin to Oslo (Gardermoen) (DUB–OSL) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Irish passport holders enter Norway visa-free for unlimited stays as EEA citizens. Norway is in the Schengen Area but not the EU. Ireland is in neither, so there is passport control on arrival. EU/EEA nationals face no time restrictions. A valid Irish passport is required.

For stays beyond 3 months, register with the Norwegian police (UDI registration scheme) within 3 months. EU/EEA citizens register online at selfservice.udi.no, then attend an appointment at a service centre. Registration is free. Bring proof of employment, self-employment, studies, or sufficient funds plus health insurance. A Norwegian personal number (fodselsnummer) is issued through the tax office (Skatteetaten) and is needed for banking, healthcare, and most services.

Direct flights from Dublin to Oslo run about 2 hours 20 minutes on Ryanair, SAS, and Norwegian. Bergen and Stavanger have seasonal service. Norway uses the Norwegian krone (NOK), trading at roughly 11.5 NOK per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere, and cash is rarely needed or even accepted. No vaccination requirements. Norway is expensive: a restaurant meal runs NOK 200 to 400 (EUR 17 to 35), a beer at a bar is NOK 90 to 120 (EUR 8 to 10). Irish driving licenses are valid for short stays; residents must exchange within 1 year.

Dublin Bus route 747 (Airlink) runs from the city centre (O'Connell Street) to the airport in 30–50 minutes, costing €7 one-way or €12 return. DART rail does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station requires a bus connection. Ride-shares from the city centre typically cost €20–35 depending on traffic.

The M50 and M1 motorways feed into the airport; short-term parking in Terminal 1 or 2 costs from €4/30 min, while long-stay lots (P3/P4) are significantly cheaper for multi-day trips. Allow extra time during morning and evening rush hours on the M50.

Flytoget trains depart from the station below the arrivals hall every 10 minutes, reaching Oslo Central Station in 19 minutes (NOK 230-252). Buy from the yellow machines on the platform or tap your card on board. Vy regional trains leave from the same platform and take 23-25 minutes for NOK 129. Both trains share the track through Romerike and only diverge on timing and price.

Flybussen coaches stop at the terminal exit and serve central hotels and bus hubs (NOK 259 pre-booked, 45-55 minutes). Taxis queue outside arrivals with fixed-price zones posted at the rank. Expect NOK 700-1200 to central Oslo depending on your destination and time of day. Car rental desks are in the arrivals hall with vehicles in the adjacent parking structure.

Oslo has cold winters and mild summers. December through February averages -7 to -1 degrees C with short daylight hours (the sun sets by 15:10 in mid-December). Snow is reliable from November onward, and icy roads are standard. Summers (June-August) bring long days and highs of 18-22 degrees C with 18+ hours of daylight around the solstice. Rain peaks in late summer and autumn at 65-90mm per month.

Spring thaws through March and April with rapid warming into May (8-16 degrees C). Autumn cools fast after September, dropping to 3 degrees C by November. Annual rainfall totals about 830mm, spread fairly evenly but slightly heavier in summer and fall. Pack thermal layers and waterproof outerwear for winter. Summer visitors still need a jacket for cool evenings and a rain shell for afternoon showers.
