Irish passport holders enter France visa-free for unlimited stays as EU citizens. No fee, no advance application. A valid Irish passport is required. Ireland is not in the Schengen Area, so flights to France go through passport control, but EU citizens are processed quickly. French border officers almost never ask for supporting documents from Irish nationals.

For stays beyond 3 months, no formal residence permit is required for EU citizens, but registering at the local mairie (town hall) simplifies administrative life. To work, your employer handles Social Security registration. For healthcare, apply for a Carte Vitale through the CPAM (Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie) once you have proof of stable residence. Bring employment contracts, proof of address, and your birth certificate with apostille (translated by a sworn translator).

Direct flights from Dublin to Paris run about 1 hour 40 minutes on Aer Lingus and Ryanair. Dublin to Lyon, Nice, Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Nantes also have direct service. France uses the euro, so no currency exchange needed. No vaccination requirements. Irish driving licenses are valid for short stays. Residents must exchange within 1 year via the ANTS online portal, which can take 2 to 4 months to process.

Dublin Bus route 747 (Airlink) runs from the city centre (O'Connell Street) to the airport in 30–50 minutes, costing €7 one-way or €12 return. DART rail does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station requires a bus connection. Ride-shares from the city centre typically cost €20–35 depending on traffic.

The M50 and M1 motorways feed into the airport; short-term parking in Terminal 1 or 2 costs from €4/30 min, while long-stay lots (P3/P4) are significantly cheaper for multi-day trips. Allow extra time during morning and evening rush hours on the M50.

RER B to central Paris (Gare du Nord 25 min, Châtelet 30 min) costs €11.80. Take the free CDGVAL train from T1 or T3 to the RER station at T2 first. Heavy luggage is awkward on this line during rush hour; some platforms have no escalators.Fixed taxis: €55 to Right Bank, €65 to Left Bank. Ride-hail (Uber) costs €40–65. Le Bus Direct coaches run to Montparnasse, Opéra, and the Eiffel Tower (€17, 45–70 min). Connecting to Gare de Lyon or Massy for TGV services is possible via RER B (Denfert-Rochereau transfer).

Temperate oceanic climate. Summers are warm (20–27°C) and mostly dry with occasional thunderstorm delays. Winters are cold and overcast (2–8°C) with frequent rain and periodic frost. Snow is rare but CDG briefly closes when it falls on an unprepared system. Fog is the primary winter flight disruption, particularly November through January.

Spring is mild and wet. Autumn is the most unpredictable season weather-wise. CDG is a major hub. Even moderate weather cascades across European connections. Pack a mid-weight jacket year-round. Summers are rarely hot enough for short sleeves in the evenings.
