Mexican passport holders need a B1/B2 visa to enter the United States. The visa is obtained through a US embassy or consulate and requires an in-person interview. B1/B2 visas are typically issued for 10 years with stays of up to 6 months per entry.
For land crossings within the border zone, a Border Crossing Card (BCC) is an alternative. The BCC costs USD 185 and is valid for 10 years. It allows entry up to 25 miles from the border in Texas and California, or 55 miles in New Mexico and Arizona. Travel by air or beyond the border zone requires a full B1/B2 visa with a valid passport.
ADO buses run from downtown Cancún bus terminal to the airport for MXN 102 (about USD $5) in 20–25 minutes. The Tren Maya (Maya Train) opened a station at CUN Airport (Terminal 4), connecting to the broader Yucatán rail network. Taxis from the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) cost MXN 350–550 (USD $17–28) depending on the zone.Authorized taxis from the airport are sold by ticket inside the terminal; agree on the fare before leaving the building to avoid inflated street prices. Uber is blocked from airport pick-ups by local taxi concessions; use the authorised taxi stand. Car rental is available at all four terminals.
Taxis and ride-shares dominate ground transport. A metered taxi to the Strip costs $20–30; to downtown Las Vegas ("Fremont Street area"), $20–25. Ride-shares are comparable or slightly cheaper.Hotel casino shuttles serve major properties. No rail connects the airport to the Strip. Rental car facilities are at the CONRAC facility adjacent to the terminals, accessible by shuttle. Tunnel project (LVCC Loop) does not serve the airport.
Hot desert climate. Summers are intensely hot (38–45°C) with low humidity. Heat itself rarely disrupts flights, but monsoonal afternoon thunderstorms from July through September can produce brief but severe delays. Microbursts and lightning strikes ground aircraft quickly.
Winters are mild and sunny (5–15°C) with rare frost. Snow is unusual but possible in January and February. Spring dust storms (haboobs) can reduce visibility rapidly. The airport sits at 2,181 feet; thin air affects aircraft performance on extremely hot days.
