Chongqing to Munich (CKG–MUC) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Chinese passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Germany. Apply at the German embassy or a VFS Global visa centre in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, or Shenyang. The short-stay visa costs EUR 80 and allows stays up to 90 days within a 180-day window. Processing takes 10 to 15 calendar days on average.

Required documents: completed application form, two biometric photos, travel medical insurance with EUR 30,000 minimum coverage, round-trip flight reservation, proof of accommodation, and proof of financial means. Germany is one of the higher approval-rate Schengen countries for Chinese applicants. If Germany is your main destination in a multi-country trip, submit your application there even if you enter the Schengen area through another country.

Chongqing Metro Line 10 runs directly to T3A (the main international and domestic terminal) in 35–45 minutes from Jiaochangkou (city centre), costing ¥6–8. Line 3 also connects to the airport with a transfer. T3B links internally to T3A; check if your terminal is within the same building before choosing a route.Airport shuttle buses serve multiple city zones including Chaotianmen, Guanyinqiao, and Shapingba (¥20–30, 40–70 min). Taxis from the Jiefangbei area cost ¥60–90 and take 40–60 minutes depending on expressway conditions. DiDi is widely available.

S8 S-Bahn to Marienplatz (central Munich) takes 40 minutes (€13.60). S1 offers an alternative route. Both run every 20 minutes, starting from around 4am. The Airport City Day Ticket (€12.80) covers all city zones and is worth buying if making multiple journeys.

Lufthansa Airport Bus to Hauptbahnhof costs €12 (45 min). Taxis to central Munich run €65–80. For Nuremberg, ICE trains run from the airport station via Munich Hauptbahnhof. The terminal complex (T1 and T2) is efficiently laid out with short walks between check-in and gates.

Continental climate at 453m elevation. Winters (December–February) bring regular snowfall and temperatures of −5 to 3°C. The airport is well-equipped for winter operations and rarely closes for snow, but heavy snowfall and black ice cause delays. Munich can be hit by Föhn wind events: a warm alpine wind that reduces visibility and generates turbulence.

Summers are warm (22–28°C) with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August. These can be severe enough to ground aircraft temporarily. Spring and fall are pleasant but variable. October is reliably clear and often the best month for connections.
