Beijing to Munich (PEK–MUC) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Chinese passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Germany. Apply at the German embassy or a VFS Global visa centre in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, or Shenyang. The short-stay visa costs EUR 80 and allows stays up to 90 days within a 180-day window. Processing takes 10 to 15 calendar days on average.

Required documents: completed application form, two biometric photos, travel medical insurance with EUR 30,000 minimum coverage, round-trip flight reservation, proof of accommodation, and proof of financial means. Bank statements from the last 3 months are standard. Employment letters with salary and approved leave dates are expected for employed applicants. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the planned Schengen exit date with 2 blank pages.

Germany is one of the higher approval-rate Schengen countries for Chinese applicants. If Germany is your main destination in a multi-country trip, submit your application there even if you enter the Schengen area through another country.

Airport Express train runs from Dongzhimen or Sanyuanqiao (Line 10) to the airport in 16–20 minutes (¥25). Trains run every 10 minutes from 6am to 11pm and connect directly to Terminals 2 and 3. This bypasses Beijing's severe road congestion reliably.Taxis from central Beijing (Dongcheng/Xicheng districts) cost ¥80–120 and take 40–90 minutes depending on traffic and time of day. Express buses (¥25–30) serve major city hubs. Note that PKX (Daxing) is Beijing's second international airport; confirm your terminal before traveling.

S8 S-Bahn to Marienplatz (central Munich) takes 40 minutes (€13.60). S1 offers an alternative route. Both run every 20 minutes, starting from around 4am. The Airport City Day Ticket (€12.80) covers all city zones and is worth buying if making multiple journeys.

Lufthansa Airport Bus to Hauptbahnhof costs €12 (45 min). Taxis to central Munich run €65–80. For Nuremberg, ICE trains run from the airport station via Munich Hauptbahnhof. The terminal complex (T1 and T2) is efficiently laid out with short walks between check-in and gates.

Continental climate at 453m elevation. Winters (December–February) bring regular snowfall and temperatures of −5 to 3°C. The airport is well-equipped for winter operations and rarely closes for snow, but heavy snowfall and black ice cause delays. Munich can be hit by Föhn wind events: a warm alpine wind that reduces visibility and generates turbulence.

Summers are warm (22–28°C) with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August. These can be severe enough to ground aircraft temporarily. Spring and fall are pleasant but variable. October is reliably clear and often the best month for connections.
