Warsaw to Munich (WAW–MUC) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Polish passport holders enter Germany freely as EU and Schengen zone citizens. No visa, no time limit, no border control. Bring your Polish passport or national ID card. Flights, trains, buses, and driving between Poland and Germany involve no immigration checks.

For stays beyond 3 months, register your address at the local Burgeramt (residents' registration office) within 14 days. This Anmeldung is mandatory for everyone living in Germany, including EU citizens. You need a completed registration form and your rental contract or landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestatigung). The registration is free. EU citizens can work in Germany without a permit. A large Polish community lives in Germany (over 2 million), concentrated in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and the Ruhr area.

Direct flights from Warsaw to Berlin run about 1 hour 30 minutes on LOT and Ryanair. Connections also serve Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, and Hamburg. Trains are a strong option: the Berlin-Warszawa Express runs in about 5 hours 30 minutes, and FlixBus covers Warsaw to Berlin in about 6 hours from PLN 40. Germany uses the euro, trading at roughly 4.3 PLN per EUR 1. Card payments are increasingly common but many smaller shops, bakeries, and restaurants still prefer cash. No mandatory vaccinations. The Deutschland-Ticket (EUR 49 per month) covers all local and regional public transit across the country.

SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail Line S2/S3 connects Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) to WAW in 25 minutes (PLN 4.40 within Zone 1, or PLN 7.00 including Zone 2). Trains depart roughly every 15–30 minutes. The platform is directly below the terminal; no bus transfer needed.Bus lines 175, 188, and N32 (night) serve the city center for PLN 4.40. Taxis cost PLN 40–60 from the center (20–30 min). Uber and Bolt (dominant ride-share in Poland) run PLN 30–50. Parking from PLN 30/day in the remote car park.

S8 S-Bahn to Marienplatz (central Munich) takes 40 minutes (€13.60). S1 offers an alternative route. Both run every 20 minutes, starting from around 4am. The Airport City Day Ticket (€12.80) covers all city zones and is worth buying if making multiple journeys.

Lufthansa Airport Bus to Hauptbahnhof costs €12 (45 min). Taxis to central Munich run €65–80. For Nuremberg, ICE trains run from the airport station via Munich Hauptbahnhof. The terminal complex (T1 and T2) is efficiently laid out with short walks between check-in and gates.

Continental climate at 453m elevation. Winters (December–February) bring regular snowfall and temperatures of −5 to 3°C. The airport is well-equipped for winter operations and rarely closes for snow, but heavy snowfall and black ice cause delays. Munich can be hit by Föhn wind events: a warm alpine wind that reduces visibility and generates turbulence.

Summers are warm (22–28°C) with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August. These can be severe enough to ground aircraft temporarily. Spring and fall are pleasant but variable. October is reliably clear and often the best month for connections.
