Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Germany. Apply through VFS Global centres across India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and others). A short-stay tourist visa (Type C) costs EUR 80 (about INR 7,200). Processing takes 15 calendar days from the appointment date, but during peak season (May to September) it can reach 30 to 45 days. Required documents include a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the Schengen departure date with two blank pages, completed application form, two passport photos (35x45mm, biometric standard), travel medical insurance with EUR 30,000 minimum coverage, confirmed flight itinerary, proof of accommodation, bank statements for the last 3 months (no fixed minimum, but roughly EUR 100 per day), income tax returns, employment letter with salary details and leave approval, and a cover letter with a day-by-day itinerary. Germany has one of the higher Schengen visa refusal rates for Indian applicants (around 15 to 18%), so documentation completeness matters.

Direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Frankfurt run 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours on Lufthansa and Air India. Bengaluru to Frankfurt is about 10 hours. Munich is served via connections through Frankfurt or Middle Eastern hubs. Germany uses the euro. No mandatory vaccinations. Frankfurt airport has two terminals connected by a free SkyLine train. The S-Bahn from Frankfurt Airport to the city center takes 11 minutes for EUR 5.35. Germany is a cash-heavy society compared to other European countries, so carry euros, especially for smaller shops and restaurants.

Mumbai Metro Line 1 (Versova–Ghatkopar) does not serve the airport directly.Currently, Mumbai Local Train (Western Line to Andheri station) plus an auto-rickshaw or taxi to the terminal is a low-cost route (₹15–50 for train, ₹80–120 for rickshaw).App-based cabs (Ola, Uber) cost ₹300–600 from South Mumbai or Bandra depending on traffic. The airport is 30km from Nariman Point/Churchgate; traffic is severe most of the day. Midnight–5am is the most reliable travel window. Black-and-yellow taxis are metered and less comfortable than app cabs.

S8 S-Bahn to Marienplatz (central Munich) takes 40 minutes (€13.60). S1 offers an alternative route. Both run every 20 minutes, starting from around 4am. The Airport City Day Ticket (€12.80) covers all city zones and is worth buying if making multiple journeys.

Lufthansa Airport Bus to Hauptbahnhof costs €12 (45 min). Taxis to central Munich run €65–80. For Nuremberg, ICE trains run from the airport station via Munich Hauptbahnhof. The terminal complex (T1 and T2) is efficiently laid out with short walks between check-in and gates.

Continental climate at 453m elevation. Winters (December–February) bring regular snowfall and temperatures of −5 to 3°C. The airport is well-equipped for winter operations and rarely closes for snow, but heavy snowfall and black ice cause delays. Munich can be hit by Föhn wind events: a warm alpine wind that reduces visibility and generates turbulence.

Summers are warm (22–28°C) with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August. These can be severe enough to ground aircraft temporarily. Spring and fall are pleasant but variable. October is reliably clear and often the best month for connections.
