Amsterdam to Warsaw (AMS–WAW) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Dutch passport holders enter Poland freely as EU citizens. No visa, no time limit on stays. Bring your Dutch passport or national ID card. Poland is in both the EU and the Schengen area, so flights from the Netherlands are intra-Schengen with no passport control on arrival. Carry your ID for airline boarding.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the local voivodeship office (urzad wojewodzki) to obtain a registration certificate (zaswiadczenie o zarejestrowaniu). This is a formality for EU citizens requiring proof of employment, study, or sufficient funds. EU citizens can live and work in Poland without a work permit. Poland uses a PESEL number for administrative purposes, assigned upon registration.

Direct flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to Warsaw Chopin run about 2 hours 15 minutes on KLM and LOT Polish Airlines. Direct flights also serve Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, and Katowice from Amsterdam and Eindhoven on KLM, Wizz Air, and Ryanair. Poland uses the Polish zloty (PLN), trading at roughly 4.3 PLN per EUR 1. Card payments are standard everywhere, including small shops and market stalls. No mandatory vaccinations. Poland is notably cheaper than the Netherlands: a full restaurant meal runs PLN 40 to PLN 80 (EUR 9 to EUR 19), a beer PLN 10 to PLN 16 (EUR 2.30 to EUR 3.70). Warsaw Chopin to the city center by train (SKM or KM) takes 25 minutes and costs PLN 4.40. Krakow Balice to the city center by train takes 18 minutes for PLN 12.

Intercity and Sprinter trains run directly to Schiphol Plaza (the station is inside the terminal) from Amsterdam Centraal every 10–15 minutes (15 min, €5.70). The Intercity Direct from Rotterdam takes 43 minutes (€17.40 with supplement). Trains from The Hague take 35–45 minutes.

Taxis from central Amsterdam cost €35–50 and take 20–35 minutes. Highway A4 is frequently congested during morning rush. Bus 397 runs from Amsterdam Leidseplein to Schiphol (30 min, €5.50) for a cheaper landside alternative.

The SKM commuter train (PLN 4.40–7.00) from platform level in the terminal to Warszawa Centralna takes 25 minutes; easiest and most affordable. Trains run every 15–30 minutes from around 04:30 to midnight. Night bus N32 covers late arrivals.Taxi from the official rank: PLN 40–60 to city center. Uber and Bolt: PLN 30–50, pickup from the designated zone outside arrivals. Rental cars from several major brands are in the arrivals hall. Solidarity Airport (Chopin's formal name) is 10km south of the center via Aleje Jerozolimskie.

Humid continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. January averages −3–2°C. Snow and freezing rain are common from December through February and cause routine de-icing delays and occasional cancellations. Snowfall can be heavy. WAW has robust de-icing capability, but significant events still cause disruption.

Summers (June–August) are warm at 22–28°C with frequent thunderstorms in July. Spring and autumn offer the most operationally stable weather. Pack a proper winter coat from November through March. Wind chill on the tarmac is significant.
