Warsaw to Oslo (Gardermoen) (WAW–OSL) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Polish passport holders enter Norway freely under EEA rules. No visa, no time limit on stays. Bring your Polish passport or national ID card (both work). Norway is in the Schengen area, so flights from Poland have no passport control on arrival. Norway is not in the EU but grants full free movement to EU/EEA citizens.

For stays beyond 3 months, register with the police (UDI registration scheme). You need proof of employment, self-employment, or sufficient funds. Registration takes 2 to 4 weeks and provides a registration certificate. EU/EEA citizens can work in Norway without a work permit. A D-number (temporary tax ID) is assigned when you register for work. The full personal number (fodselsnummer) comes after registering at the tax office.

Direct flights from Warsaw to Oslo Gardermoen run about 2 hours 15 minutes on Norwegian, LOT, and Wizz Air. Krakow and Gdansk also have direct connections. Norway uses the Norwegian krone (NOK), trading at roughly 2.5 NOK per PLN 1. Card payments work everywhere, and many places do not accept cash. No mandatory vaccinations. Norway is expensive: a restaurant meal costs NOK 200 to NOK 400 (PLN 80 to PLN 160), a beer runs NOK 90 to NOK 120 (PLN 36 to PLN 48). A large Polish community lives in Norway (over 100,000), the biggest immigrant group in the country.

SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail Line S2/S3 connects Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) to WAW in 25 minutes (PLN 4.40 within Zone 1, or PLN 7.00 including Zone 2). Trains depart roughly every 15–30 minutes. The platform is directly below the terminal; no bus transfer needed.Bus lines 175, 188, and N32 (night) serve the city center for PLN 4.40. Taxis cost PLN 40–60 from the center (20–30 min). Uber and Bolt (dominant ride-share in Poland) run PLN 30–50. Parking from PLN 30/day in the remote car park.

Flytoget trains depart from the station below the arrivals hall every 10 minutes, reaching Oslo Central Station in 19 minutes (NOK 230-252). Buy from the yellow machines on the platform or tap your card on board. Vy regional trains leave from the same platform and take 23-25 minutes for NOK 129. Both trains share the track through Romerike and only diverge on timing and price.

Flybussen coaches stop at the terminal exit and serve central hotels and bus hubs (NOK 259 pre-booked, 45-55 minutes). Taxis queue outside arrivals with fixed-price zones posted at the rank. Expect NOK 700-1200 to central Oslo depending on your destination and time of day. Car rental desks are in the arrivals hall with vehicles in the adjacent parking structure.

Oslo has cold winters and mild summers. December through February averages -7 to -1 degrees C with short daylight hours (the sun sets by 15:10 in mid-December). Snow is reliable from November onward, and icy roads are standard. Summers (June-August) bring long days and highs of 18-22 degrees C with 18+ hours of daylight around the solstice. Rain peaks in late summer and autumn at 65-90mm per month.

Spring thaws through March and April with rapid warming into May (8-16 degrees C). Autumn cools fast after September, dropping to 3 degrees C by November. Annual rainfall totals about 830mm, spread fairly evenly but slightly heavier in summer and fall. Pack thermal layers and waterproof outerwear for winter. Summer visitors still need a jacket for cool evenings and a rain shell for afternoon showers.
