Polish passport holders enter Italy freely as EU and Schengen zone citizens. No visa, no time limit, no border control. Bring your Polish passport or national ID card. Flights between Poland and Italy are intra-Schengen with no immigration checks.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the local Anagrafe (registry office) within 90 days to obtain a dichiarazione di presenza and an EU citizen residence certificate. Direct flights from Warsaw to Rome Fiumicino run about 2 hours 30 minutes on LOT, ITA Airways, and Wizz Air. Warsaw to Milan Malpensa runs about 2 hours 15 minutes. Ryanair, Wizz Air, and EasyJet serve routes from Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Katowice, and Poznan to Rome, Milan, Bologna, Naples, Venice, Bari, and Catania. Italy uses the euro, trading at roughly 4.3 PLN per EUR 1. Card payments are standard in cities but some smaller shops and trattorias still prefer cash. No mandatory vaccinations. High-speed trains (Trenitalia Frecciarossa and Italo) connect Rome to Milan in 2 hours 55 minutes, Rome to Naples in 1 hour 10 minutes, and Rome to Florence in 1 hour 30 minutes.

SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail Line S2/S3 connects Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) to WAW in 25 minutes (PLN 4.40 within Zone 1, or PLN 7.00 including Zone 2). Trains depart roughly every 15–30 minutes. The platform is directly below the terminal; no bus transfer needed.Bus lines 175, 188, and N32 (night) serve the city center for PLN 4.40. Taxis cost PLN 40–60 from the center (20–30 min). Uber and Bolt (dominant ride-share in Poland) run PLN 30–50. Parking from PLN 30/day in the remote car park.

Malpensa Express trains depart Terminal 1 every 30 minutes to Milano Cadorna (45 min, €13) and Milano Centrale (52 min, €13). Terminal 2 passengers must take the free inter-terminal shuttle to reach the train. Taxis from Terminal 1 charge a fixed rate of around €100 to central Milan; pre-booked private transfers can be slightly cheaper.

Rental car desks are located in Terminal 1's arrivals area with a separate multi-storey car park. The A8 and A26 motorways give good access to the broader Lombardy and Piedmont regions.

Humid subtropical/continental climate on the Po Plain. Summers (June–August) are hot and muggy at 28–34°C, with afternoon thunderstorms that can produce short but sharp ground delays. Winters (November–February) are cold, damp, and foggy at 0–7°C. Fog is the most significant disruption risk and can persist for days, causing diversions to Turin or Bergamo.

Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant but bring variable rain. Po Valley fog is notoriously dense. Check conditions carefully for November through January travel.
