Warsaw to Stockholm (WAW–ARN) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Polish passport holders enter Sweden freely as EU citizens. No visa, no time limit on stays. Bring your Polish passport or national ID card (both work). Sweden is in both the EU and the Schengen area, so flights from Poland are intra-Schengen with no passport control on arrival.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to get a personnummer (personal identity number). This requires proof of employment or self-sufficiency and takes 2 to 8 weeks. Without a personnummer, daily life in Sweden is difficult (banking, phone contracts, gym memberships all require it). EU citizens can work in Sweden immediately without a permit, even before the personnummer is issued.

Direct flights from Warsaw to Stockholm Arlanda run about 1 hour 50 minutes on LOT, SAS, and Wizz Air. Gdansk to Gothenburg runs about 1 hour 30 minutes. Sweden uses the Swedish krona (SEK), trading at roughly 2.65 SEK per PLN 1. Card payments work everywhere, and Sweden is effectively cashless, with many shops and restaurants refusing bills and coins. No mandatory vaccinations. Stockholm's SL card works on the metro, buses, trams, and ferries at SEK 42 per 75-minute trip or SEK 165 for 24 hours. A large Polish community lives in Sweden (over 90,000), particularly in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmo.

SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail Line S2/S3 connects Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) to WAW in 25 minutes (PLN 4.40 within Zone 1, or PLN 7.00 including Zone 2). Trains depart roughly every 15–30 minutes. The platform is directly below the terminal; no bus transfer needed.Bus lines 175, 188, and N32 (night) serve the city center for PLN 4.40. Taxis cost PLN 40–60 from the center (20–30 min). Uber and Bolt (dominant ride-share in Poland) run PLN 30–50. Parking from PLN 30/day in the remote car park.

Arlanda Express (SEK 280–320) to Stockholm Central in 18 minutes. Departures every 15 minutes from platforms in the terminal. The Pendeltåg (SEK 145 including airport supplement) takes 40 minutes and departs from Arlanda Central station, a short walk or free shuttle from the terminals.Taxis to central Stockholm: SEK 600–800. Uber: SEK 400–600. Several rental car brands operate from ARN. Flygbussarna coaches serve Uppsala (1h, SEK 120) and other regional cities. The airport is 45km north of Stockholm.

Subarctic maritime climate. Winters (December–February) are cold at −7–2°C with reliable snowfall. ARN is well-equipped for winter operations with heated jet bridges and continuous de-icing capability, but major snowstorms still cause delays. Daylight is very limited. December averages fewer than 7 hours.

Summers (June–August) are mild and long at 18–24°C with up to 19 hours of daylight. Operations are very stable. Fog can form on calm, clear autumn nights (September–November). Spring snow in April is not unusual. Pack thermal layers for any winter visit.
