Thai passport holders enter Japan visa-free for up to 15 days when visiting for tourism. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. Complete the Visit Japan Web form online at vjw.digital.go.jp before arrival for immigration and customs declarations. At Narita (NRT), Haneda (HND), Kansai (KIX), or any Japanese airport, you go through immigration, provide fingerprints and a photo, and receive a "temporary visitor" stamp for 15 days.
The 15-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. For longer trips, apply for a tourist visa at the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok (Wireless Road) before departure, which grants up to 90 days. The visa is free for Thai nationals. You need a passport, application form, photo, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, bank statement, and employment letter. Processing takes 3 to 5 working days.
Direct flights from Bangkok to Tokyo Narita run about 6 hours on Thai Airways, ANA, and Japan Airlines. Bangkok to Osaka Kansai runs about 5 hours 30 minutes on Thai Airways, ANA, Peach, and Thai AirAsia X. Bangkok to Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Nagoya also have direct service. Japan uses the Japanese yen (JPY), trading at roughly 4.3 JPY per THB 1 or about 155 JPY per $1. ATMs at 7-Eleven and Japan Post accept international cards. IC cards (Suica, Pasmo, ICOCA) work on trains, buses, and at convenience stores. The Japan Rail Pass (7 days from JPY 50,000, about THB 11,600) covers unlimited Shinkansen and JR trains. Tokyo to Kyoto on the Shinkansen takes 2 hours 15 minutes.
Keikyu Line to Shinagawa (13 min, ¥310) and Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho (18 min, ¥500) both connect to JR and Tokyo Metro networks. Terminal 3 (international) has direct access to both rail lines.Limousine buses serve Shinjuku, Shibuya, and major hotels (¥1,100, 40–60 min depending on traffic). Taxis to central Tokyo run ¥3,500–5,500. Haneda's proximity to Tokyo means ground transport is faster and cheaper than from Narita in virtually all cases.
Humid subtropical climate. Summers (June–September) are hot and humid (28–35°C) with a rainy season in June and typhoons possible July through October. Typhoons occasionally divert or cancel flights, but direct hits on Tokyo are less frequent than farther south. Humidity peaks in July and August.
Winters are cold and dry (2–10°C) with occasional light snow. Even minor snowfall disrupts Tokyo's ground operations since the city is not equipped for winter road treatment. Spring (April) is pleasant but windy. Fall (October–November) offers the best flying conditions.
