US passport holders enter Qatar visa-free for up to 90 days. No advance application is needed. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. At Hamad International Airport (DOH), immigration stamps your passport quickly. The 90-day period can be extended once for another 90 days at the Ministry of Interior in Doha.

Qatar occupies a peninsula on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Doha's National Museum of Qatar (designed by Jean Nouvel), the Museum of Islamic Art (designed by I.M. Pei), and Souq Waqif are the main cultural draws. The Pearl-Qatar island and Lusail City, built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, are modern developments with restaurants, hotels, and waterfront promenades. Alcohol is available at licensed hotel bars and restaurants but not at retail shops.

Direct flights from New York JFK to Doha run about 12 hours 30 minutes on Qatar Airways. Washington Dulles (IAD) to DOH runs about 13 hours on Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways also serves Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, and Philadelphia nonstop. Qatar uses the Qatari riyal (QAR), pegged at 3.64 QAR per $1. Card payments work everywhere. The Doha Metro has 3 lines: the Red Line connects Hamad International Airport to West Bay and Lusail in about 35 minutes for QAR 2 ($0.55) per ride or QAR 6 ($1.65) for a day pass. Taxis start at QAR 10 ($2.75). Uber and Karwa operate throughout Doha.

SEPTA Airport Line rail runs from Center City Philadelphia (30th Street, Suburban, Jefferson, and Market East stations) to the airport in 25–30 minutes ($8 each way). Trains run every 30 minutes from about 5am to midnight. I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) and I-95 are both frequently congested, making the train a consistent choice for anyone based near a SEPTA station.

Ride-shares from Center City cost $20–35 and take 20–40 minutes. Taxis are metered and slightly more.

Doha Metro Gold Line departs from inside the terminal to the city centre (15–20 min, QAR 3–6). Msheireb station is the interchange for connecting to the Red and Green lines. First train is at 6am; late-night arrivals will need a taxi or ride-hail. Karwa taxis are available at the arrivals area; West Bay costs QAR 30–50.Careem and Uber are the most cost-effective options. Hamad International has no separate rental car facility visible from arrivals; rental desks are landside. The airport is 15 km from central Doha with good road access via the Corniche and Lusail Expressway.

Desert climate, similar to Dubai. Summers (June–September) are intensely hot (37–45°C) with very high humidity. Ground operations slow but flights rarely cancel for heat alone. Dust haze is persistent and occasionally reduces visibility below instrument minimums. Winter (November–March) is pleasant at 15–26°C and represents Qatar Airways' peak operational period.

Rain is rare, fewer than 10 rainy days per year, but the drainage infrastructure means even light rain causes road flooding. Occasional dust storms (shamal) reduce visibility and can ground departures for hours. Spring (March–May) is the most dust-prone season.
