Mainland China citizens do not use a passport to enter Taiwan. Travel requires an Exit-Entry Permit issued by mainland authorities and a Taiwan Entry Permit issued by Taiwan's National Immigration Agency. Individual tourism from the mainland has been suspended since August 2019 and remains closed. Mainland residents who hold permanent or temporary residency in Hong Kong, Macau, or a third country can apply for a Taiwan Entry Permit online and enter from outside the mainland.
