Tokyo to Taipei (Songshan) (HND–TSA) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Japanese passport holders enter Taiwan visa-free for up to 90 days. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry (though some reports suggest validity for the duration of stay is sufficient for Japanese nationals, having 6 months avoids any questions). One blank page required. A return or onward ticket is needed.

At Taiwan Taoyuan (TPE) or Songshan (TSA), automated e-Gates are available for Japanese passport holders who have entered Taiwan at least once. First-time visitors register biometrics at the manned counters. Peak hours at TPE Terminal 1 (budget carriers) can mean 20 to 40 minutes at immigration. Terminal 2 (full-service carriers) is faster. No proof of funds or accommodation is requested for Japanese nationals.

Direct flights from Tokyo Narita and Haneda to Taipei Taoyuan run about 4 hours on China Airlines, EVA Air, ANA, JAL, Peach, and Scoot. Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Okinawa, and Sendai also have direct service. Taiwan uses the New Taiwan dollar (TWD), trading at roughly 0.22 TWD per JPY. EasyCard (iPASS also works) costs TWD 100 at any MRT station or convenience store, usable on metro, buses, YouBike, and in 7-Eleven and FamilyMart for purchases. No vaccination requirements.

Keikyu Line from Shinagawa reaches Haneda in 13 minutes (¥310). Tokyo Monorail from Hamamatsucho takes 15–22 minutes (¥500). Both run frequently from 5am to midnight. Haneda's central location makes it by far the most convenient Tokyo airport.Taxis from central Tokyo cost ¥3,500–5,500 depending on destination and traffic. Limousine buses serve major hotels and stations (¥600–1,100). Ride-shares (GO, S.RIDE) are growing in Japan. The airport is 14km from central Tokyo, significantly closer than Narita.
