Japanese passport holders can enter Indonesia with a Visa on Arrival (VoA) for 30 days, costing IDR 500,000 (about $31). The VoA is extendable once for another 30 days at an immigration office in Indonesia for IDR 500,000. For stays beyond 60 days, apply for a B211A social/cultural visa before travel through a visa agent or sponsor.

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months with one blank page. Have your return ticket accessible at the VoA counter. Indonesia also offers a free visa-free entry for 30 days (no extension possible) at select ports, but the VoA is worth the $31 if you might want to extend. The eVoA at molina.imigrasi.go.id lets you prepay and skip the airport VoA queue, processed within 2 days.

Direct flights from Tokyo Narita to Jakarta run about 7 hours 30 minutes on Garuda Indonesia, Japan Airlines, and ANA. Tokyo to Bali Denpasar runs about 7 hours on Garuda and ANA (seasonal). Indonesia uses the Indonesian rupiah (IDR), trading at roughly 16,000 IDR per $1. ATMs are everywhere in Bali and Jakarta. No mandatory vaccinations. Bali and Java are 2 hours behind Japan. Grab (ride-hailing app) works throughout Indonesia and is much cheaper than airport taxis.

The Narita Express (N'EX) runs from Tokyo Station to Narita Airport in 60 minutes, with stops at Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Yokohama (¥3,070 one-way from Tokyo; discounted round-trip tickets available). Keisei Skyliner from Ueno takes 41 minutes to Terminal 1 (¥2,570); the faster option from east-side Tokyo. Keisei Limited Express is slower (80 min) but cheaper at ¥1,290.Limousine buses depart from major Tokyo hotels and stations for ¥3,200 and take 75–105 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis are extremely expensive (¥20,000–30,000+); avoid unless cost is no concern. The airport is 60 km from central Tokyo.
