The eVisa application requires a passport photo page scan, a passport-style digital photo (white background, 2x2 inches, JPEG 10KB to 1MB), and the address of your first hotel in India. The photo requirements are strict, and applications are frequently rejected for non-compliant images. Direct flights from London Heathrow to Delhi run about 8 hours 15 minutes, to Mumbai about 9 hours, on Air India, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic. One-stop connections via the Gulf hubs (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi) serve dozens of Indian cities for 10 to 14 hours total. The Indian rupee (INR) trades at roughly 85 INR per $1. No mandatory vaccinations for direct UK arrivals. Yellow fever vaccination is required if arriving from an endemic country. Indian customs allows duty-free import of goods worth up to INR 50,000.

The Metrolink tram (Airport line) connects Manchester city centre (Piccadilly) to the airport in about 55 minutes for £4.50–£5.50, running until midnight. The dedicated rail service from Manchester Piccadilly takes only 20 minutes (£4.80 off-peak) and runs frequently from 06:00 to 23:00. Direct trains also serve Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, and other northern cities.National Express coaches connect the airport to London Victoria (3h15, from £10) and many regional cities. Taxis from the city centre cost £25–40 depending on traffic. The airport is well-signed from the M56 motorway with on-site multi-storey parking (Terminal 1/2/3 all have adjacent structures).

Ola and Uber are the practical options from BOM. Book from inside the terminal and follow signs to the designated pickup zone. To South Mumbai (Nariman Point/Churchgate), expect ₹400–700 and 45–90 minutes depending on traffic. To Bandra or Juhu, ₹200–350 in 20–40 minutes.Pre-paid taxis from the terminal cost slightly less but use older vehicles. Mumbai Local trains are accessible via auto-rickshaw to Andheri station (10 min, ₹80–100) then Western Line to Churchgate (50 min, ₹25); inexpensive but impractical with large luggage. Terminal 2 (international) and Terminal 1 (domestic) are adjacent but separate buildings.

Tropical monsoon climate. The Southwest Monsoon (June–September) brings some of the heaviest urban rainfall in the world. Mumbai regularly receives 2,000–3,000mm per season. Flooding of approach roads and reduced visibility cause frequent delays and diversions during July and August. The July 26, 2005 floods are the benchmark for worst-case disruption.

Dry season (November–May) is reliable with warm temperatures (22–35°C) and clear skies. May sees pre-monsoon heat and humidity (32–38°C). Cyclones in the Arabian Sea can affect the region in May–June and October–November. November through February is the most stable period.
