British passport holders enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days (extended from the previous 30-day allowance). No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. A single 30-day extension is available at any Thai immigration office for THB 1,900 (about $53), giving a total possible stay of 90 days.

You need proof of onward travel (airline ticket out of Thailand within 60 days). Immigration can ask for proof of sufficient funds: THB 20,000 (about $560) in cash or equivalent per person, or THB 40,000 per family. This is rarely checked but enforced sporadically, especially at land borders. For longer stays, apply for a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa at the Thai embassy in London for GBP 30, or a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa for GBP 150 (valid 6 months, 60 days per entry).

Direct flights from London Heathrow to Bangkok (BKK) run about 11 hours 30 minutes on Thai Airways and British Airways. The Thai baht (THB) trades at roughly 35.5 THB per $1. No vaccination requirements for UK arrivals, though hepatitis A and typhoid are recommended. Bangkok has two airports: Suvarnabhumi (BKK) handles most international flights, Don Mueang (DMK) handles budget carriers. Transfer between them takes 45 to 90 minutes by taxi or shuttle bus.

The Metrolink tram (Airport line) connects Manchester city centre (Piccadilly) to the airport in about 55 minutes for £4.50–£5.50, running until midnight. The dedicated rail service from Manchester Piccadilly takes only 20 minutes (£4.80 off-peak) and runs frequently from 06:00 to 23:00. Direct trains also serve Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, and other northern cities.National Express coaches connect the airport to London Victoria (3h15, from £10) and many regional cities. Taxis from the city centre cost £25–40 depending on traffic. The airport is well-signed from the M56 motorway with on-site multi-storey parking (Terminal 1/2/3 all have adjacent structures).

Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in 30 minutes (฿45). Runs 6am to midnight. Connect to BTS Skytrain at Phaya Thai for onward travel to Sukhumvit, Silom, or Siam.Taxis from the arrivals level are metered; add the ฿50 airport surcharge and expressway tolls to the meter reading. Total to central Bangkok typically ฿300–450. Grab is reliable and avoids negotiation. Limousine services (฿800–1,500) are available from the arrival hall. Buses are cheap but slow given Bangkok's traffic.

Tropical monsoon climate. Hot season (March–May) reaches 38–40°C with high humidity. Wet season (May–October) brings daily heavy rains and occasional flooding. Thunderstorms cause flight delays regularly. Suvarnabhumi sits in a flood-prone area east of Bangkok. The 2011 floods came close to the airport perimeter.

Cool season (November–February) is the most comfortable for travel (25–32°C) with lower humidity and good flying weather. Haze from agricultural burning occasionally reduces visibility in March–April.
