London to Tenerife (LHR–TFS) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

British passport holders enter Spain visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day rolling period under Schengen rules. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure date with at least two blank pages. UK passports are stamped on entry and exit since Brexit. ID cards are no longer accepted for UK nationals.

No supporting documents are mandatory, but border officers can request proof of accommodation, onward travel, and sufficient funds (EUR 113.40 per person per day, minimum EUR 1,020.60 for any stay, as set by Spanish authorities). The 90-day limit is shared across all 29 Schengen countries. ETIAS pre-travel authorization (EUR 7, valid 3 years) is expected to become mandatory in late 2026. The Canary Islands and Balearic Islands are part of the Schengen zone and count toward the same 90 days.

Direct flights from London to Madrid run 2 hours 25 minutes, to Barcelona 2 hours 15 minutes, to Malaga 2 hours 50 minutes. Budget carriers (Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling, Wizz Air) serve dozens of UK-Spain routes from regional airports. Spain uses the euro. No vaccination requirements. UK driving licenses are valid for short visits but an International Driving Permit (IDP) is technically required for car rental, though most rental agencies accept the UK license alone.

Heathrow Express runs from London Paddington to T5 and T2/T3 in 15–21 minutes (£37 single, cheaper booked online or via the Heathrow app). Elizabeth line (Crossrail) is a lower-cost alternative; Paddington to T5 in 34 minutes from £13.50 with an Oyster/contactless cap of £14.90. The Elizabeth line also serves central London stations including Bond Street, Farringdon, and Liverpool Street.London Underground Piccadilly line serves all terminals (T2/T3/T4/T5) from central London in 40–60 minutes (£6 with Oyster). Taxis (black cabs) from central London cost £55–90 depending on traffic. Coach services from Victoria Coach Station (National Express) cost from £10 booked in advance.

TITSA bus Line 111 serves Santa Cruz de Tenerife (€7.65, 60 min) and stops at major resort towns along the way. For Playa de las Américas or Los Cristianos, Line 111/116 runs €1.65–3 and takes 20–30 minutes.Taxis to the southern resorts cost €15–25 (15–25 min). To Santa Cruz: €40–55. All major rental car companies operate from TFS; desks are in the arrivals hall with cars in the adjacent lot. The TF-1 motorway connects the airport directly to resort zones and the capital.

Warm semi-arid climate with remarkably consistent weather year-round. The south of Tenerife averages over 3,000 hours of sunshine annually; the airport rarely sees rain. Winter temperatures hold at 18–23°C, summer at 26–30°C.

The dominant disruption risk is the Calima, a hot, dusty wind from the Sahara (typically February and July–August) that reduces visibility and occasionally causes diversions. Wind on approach can be strong due to the island's volcanic terrain creating turbulence. TFS is among the most reliable airports in Europe operationally.
