Dublin to Tenerife (DUB–TFS) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Irish passport holders enter Spain freely as EU citizens. No visa, no fee, no time limit on stays. Ireland is not in the Schengen Area, so passport control applies on arrival from Dublin. A valid Irish passport or Passport Card is sufficient.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the Oficina de Extranjeria or local police station for a Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Union (green card). The fee is EUR 12. Bring proof of employment, self-employment, or sufficient resources (roughly EUR 600 per month per person) plus health insurance. An empadronamiento (municipal registration) at the town hall is needed separately for most administrative purposes, including opening a bank account. A NIE (Numero de Identidad de Extranjero) is assigned at registration and acts as your tax and identity number in Spain.

Direct flights from Dublin to Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, and Alicante run 2 hours 20 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes on Ryanair, Aer Lingus, and Iberia. Seasonal routes cover Palma, Faro-adjacent Seville, and the Canary Islands. Spain uses the euro. No vaccination requirements. Spain is the most popular destination for Irish emigrants and retirees in the EU, so English-speaking communities and services exist in most coastal cities. Irish driving licenses are valid for the first 6 months of residence; after that, exchange through the DGT is required.

Dublin Bus route 747 (Airlink) runs from the city centre (O'Connell Street) to the airport in 30–50 minutes, costing €7 one-way or €12 return. DART rail does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station requires a bus connection. Ride-shares from the city centre typically cost €20–35 depending on traffic.

The M50 and M1 motorways feed into the airport; short-term parking in Terminal 1 or 2 costs from €4/30 min, while long-stay lots (P3/P4) are significantly cheaper for multi-day trips. Allow extra time during morning and evening rush hours on the M50.

TITSA bus Line 111 serves Santa Cruz de Tenerife (€7.65, 60 min) and stops at major resort towns along the way. For Playa de las Américas or Los Cristianos, Line 111/116 runs €1.65–3 and takes 20–30 minutes.Taxis to the southern resorts cost €15–25 (15–25 min). To Santa Cruz: €40–55. All major rental car companies operate from TFS; desks are in the arrivals hall with cars in the adjacent lot. The TF-1 motorway connects the airport directly to resort zones and the capital.

Warm semi-arid climate with remarkably consistent weather year-round. The south of Tenerife averages over 3,000 hours of sunshine annually; the airport rarely sees rain. Winter temperatures hold at 18–23°C, summer at 26–30°C.

The dominant disruption risk is the Calima, a hot, dusty wind from the Sahara (typically February and July–August) that reduces visibility and occasionally causes diversions. Wind on approach can be strong due to the island's volcanic terrain creating turbulence. TFS is among the most reliable airports in Europe operationally.
