Jeddah to Toronto (JED–YYZ) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Saudi passport holders need a visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa) to enter Canada. Apply online at ircc.canada.ca or at the VFS Global visa application center in Riyadh or Jeddah. The application fee is CAD 100 (about SAR 275). Processing takes 20 to 60 days depending on the season, so apply well in advance. A biometrics appointment at VFS Global is required ($85, valid for 10 years).

Required documents: passport valid for the duration of your stay, completed IMM 5257 form, two passport photos, proof of funds (bank statements for at least 3 months), travel itinerary, letter of invitation if visiting someone, and proof of ties to Saudi Arabia (employment letter, property documents). The visa is typically issued as a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 10 years (or until passport expiry), allowing stays of up to 6 months per visit. A border officer at the Canadian port of entry determines the exact admission period.

Direct flights from Riyadh to Toronto Pearson run about 13 hours on Saudia. Jeddah to Toronto is also available. Connecting through London, Istanbul, or Frankfurt adds 3 to 5 hours but opens routes to Montreal and Vancouver. Canada uses the Canadian dollar (CAD), trading at roughly 0.73 CAD per SAR 1. Card payments work everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations. Toronto's Presto card covers TTC subway, buses, and streetcars at CAD 3.35 per trip. Montreal's OPUS card costs CAD 3.75 per ride. Vancouver's Compass card covers SkyTrain, buses, and SeaBus at CAD 3.15 to CAD 4.95 per zone.

The Haramain High Speed Railway connects JED Airport Station to Jeddah city (King Abdullah Station) in about 15 minutes (SAR 20–25). The same line runs to Mecca and Medina, making it useful for Hajj and Umrah travelers.Taxis from central Jeddah cost SAR 60–100 and take 25–45 minutes. Uber and Careem operate widely and typically run SAR 40–80. Driving yourself is straightforward; the airport is well signed from King Abdulaziz Road and the Ring Road.

UP Express from T1 to Union Station runs every 15 minutes (25 min, CAD $12.35). The station is inside T1; take the LINK train from T3 arrivals first (free, 3 min). Taxis to downtown use a meter; expect CAD $55–75.Ride-hail (Uber, Lyft) picks up at the designated Ground Transportation area; follow signs. TTC buses run to the Kipling and Bloor–Yonge subway stations (CAD $3.30) for a longer but cheaper option. Car rental agencies are at T1 and accessible from T3 via the LINK train.

Humid continental climate. Winters are harsh (−10 to −1°C, December–March) with significant snowfall. Pearson closes runways for plowing and de-icing regularly, causing wave delays. Ice storms (freezing rain) are more disruptive than snowfall and can halt operations for hours. Buffalo-effect lake-effect snow can bring heavy accumulations with little warning.

Summers are warm and humid (22–30°C) with afternoon thunderstorms that delay departures July–August. Spring and fall are pleasant but unpredictable. YYZ connections in winter require significant schedule buffer. It is Canada's most weather-disrupted major hub.
