Jeddah to Amsterdam (JED–AMS) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Saudi passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter the Netherlands. Apply at the Dutch Embassy in Riyadh or through the VFS Global visa application center in Riyadh and Jeddah. Required documents: passport valid for at least 3 months beyond departure from the Schengen area with two blank pages, completed application form, two biometric photos, travel medical insurance covering EUR 30,000, flight reservation, hotel booking, bank statements for the last 3 months, and an employment or business letter. Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) is a major European hub and often the entry point for Saudi travelers visiting the Benelux or connecting to other Schengen destinations.

Direct flights from Riyadh to Amsterdam run about 6 hours on Saudia and KLM. Jeddah to Amsterdam is also served. The Netherlands uses the euro, trading at roughly 3.95 SAR per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere, and many shops are cashless (Maestro/debit preferred, but Visa and Mastercard are accepted at most places). No mandatory vaccinations. The train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal takes 15 minutes at EUR 5.60. An OV-chipkaart covers all Dutch trains, trams, buses, and metros. Amsterdam's tram and metro cost EUR 2.40 per trip. The Museumplein area houses the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum within walking distance. Rotterdam is 40 minutes from Amsterdam by train, and The Hague is 50 minutes.

The Haramain High Speed Railway connects JED Airport Station to Jeddah city (King Abdullah Station) in about 15 minutes (SAR 20–25). The same line runs to Mecca and Medina, making it useful for Hajj and Umrah travelers.Taxis from central Jeddah cost SAR 60–100 and take 25–45 minutes. Uber and Careem operate widely and typically run SAR 40–80. Driving yourself is straightforward; the airport is well signed from King Abdulaziz Road and the Ring Road.

Trains depart directly from inside the terminal (Schiphol Plaza) to Amsterdam Centraal every 10–15 minutes (15 min, €5.70). Direct intercity trains also serve Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Eindhoven without requiring transfers. NS Hispeed connects to Brussels (1h 50m) and Paris CDG (3h 20m).

Taxis use a meter; Amsterdam Centraal costs €35–50. Ride-hail apps (Uber, Bolt) are cheaper at €25–40. Car rental agencies are at the terminal. Bus 397 to Leidseplein is the budget option (€5.50).

Temperate maritime climate, mild and frequently overcast year-round. Winters are cold (0–7°C) with regular rain and occasional snow or freezing fog. AMS handles de-icing efficiently but heavy snowfall (rare) causes cascading delays across the network. Fog is the primary winter disruption risk, particularly November through February.

Summers are warm (17–24°C) with long days and moderate rain. Thunderstorms in July–August cause brief but sharp delays. Strong crosswinds from the North Sea affect small aircraft year-round. Pack a waterproof layer regardless of season.
