This is a useful shortcut for travelers combining a UK and Ireland trip on a single UK visa.

Direct flights from Istanbul (IST) to Dublin (DUB) run about 4 hours 15 minutes on Turkish Airlines and Aer Lingus. Ireland uses the euro (EUR), trading at roughly 37 TRY per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere, including contactless on Dublin Bus. A Leap Card gives discounted fares: EUR 1.70 per bus ride (versus EUR 2.40 cash). Dublin to Galway by bus takes 2 hours 40 minutes on CityLink or Bus Eireann (EUR 15 to EUR 20). Dublin to Cork by train takes 2 hours 30 minutes on Irish Rail (EUR 20 to EUR 50).

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.

Airlink 747 coaches depart from outside both terminals every 10–15 minutes to the city centre (€7 one-way). Dublin Bus routes 16 and 41 are cheaper (€3.10 with Leap card) but slower, taking 45–70 minutes. Taxis are metered; expect €25–40 to the city centre depending on traffic and time of day.

Rental car desks are located in both terminal buildings with a large multi-storey car park adjacent. For north-side city destinations, the airport is relatively quick via the Port Tunnel; south-side journeys add considerable time during peak hours.

Temperate oceanic climate with mild, wet weather year-round. Summers (June–August) are cool and frequently overcast, with highs of 17–21°C. Winters are mild (3–9°C) with frequent rain but rarely frost or snow. Fog can affect operations in autumn and winter, particularly early mornings.

Wind is the primary disruption risk. Atlantic storms from October through March can cause ground stops and diverts. Pack a waterproof layer regardless of season; dry, sunny days occur but rarely in long stretches.
