Seoul to Rome (ICN–FCO) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

South Korean passport holders enter Italy visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen zone.

Your passport is stamped on first entry into the Schengen area. The 90-day limit applies across all 27 Schengen countries combined. For longer stays, apply for a visa at the Italian Embassy in Seoul before travel. South Korea has a Working Holiday agreement with Italy (ages 18 to 30, 1-year stay). Italy's Elective Residence Visa is an option for retirees or self-sufficient individuals with proof of EUR 31,000 annual income.

Direct flights from Seoul Incheon to Rome Fiumicino (FCO) run about 12 hours on Korean Air. Connections through Istanbul, Frankfurt, or Helsinki to Milan, Venice, and other Italian cities add 3 to 6 hours. Italy uses the euro. Card acceptance is strong in cities but some smaller trattorias, markets, and rural accommodations prefer cash. Carry EUR 50 to EUR 100. No mandatory vaccinations. Trenitalia Frecciarossa high-speed trains connect Rome to Florence (1 hour 30 minutes, EUR 20 to EUR 50) and Milan (3 hours, EUR 30 to EUR 70). Buy tickets on the Trenitalia app or at station machines. Validate paper tickets at the green machines on the platform before boarding.

AREX (Airport Railroad Express) runs two services from Seoul Station: the Direct Train (43 min, ₩11,000, reserved seats) and the All-Stop train (66 min, ₩4,550, unreserved). Both trains serve T1 first, then T2; confirm which terminal your airline uses before boarding.Limousine buses depart from major Seoul neighborhoods and hotels (₩16,000–18,000, 60–90 min depending on traffic). KAL and LIMOUSINE services are reliable. Taxis from central Seoul cost ₩65,000–80,000 and take 60–90 minutes. Deluxe (black) taxis are pricier but English-speaking drivers are more common.

Leonardo Express to Roma Termini (32 min, €14) departs from inside the terminal every 30 minutes. Regional FL1 trains cost €8 and serve Trastevere, Ostiense, and Tiburtina; useful if your accommodation is near those stations.Official taxis (white, metered) from FCO to central Rome (within the Aurelian Walls) have a fixed €50 fare regardless of traffic. Agree on the fixed rate before departure. Ciampino (CIA) handles Ryanair and some charter flights; it is 40 minutes east of Rome by bus and a completely separate airport.

Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and dry (28–36°C, June–August) with little rain and intense sunshine. Heat rarely disrupts flights but can make the terminal uncomfortable. Winters are mild (5–13°C) with rain primarily from November through February. Snow in Rome is rare, occurring once every few years, but when it falls the city and airport are largely unprepared. Even light accumulations cause significant disruption.

Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons (15–23°C). Sirocco winds from the Sahara occasionally bring warm dusty air and reduced visibility in spring. FCO has little fog risk and generally good flying weather compared to northern European hubs.
