South Korean passport holders enter Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 30 days. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. This is a bilateral agreement between South Korea and Kazakhstan, not a unilateral waiver. You need proof of onward travel and accommodation.

At immigration, your passport is stamped for up to 30 days. No registration is required for stays under 30 days. For stays beyond 30 days, obtain a visa at the Kazakh Embassy in Seoul before travel, or apply for an eVisa at vmp.gov.kz ($56, single-entry, 30-day stay, processed within 5 working days). Business and work visas require a letter of invitation from a Kazakh entity registered with migration authorities.

Direct flights from Seoul Incheon to Almaty run about 7 hours on Air Astana and Korean Air. Astana (NQZ) connections route through Almaty or via Istanbul. Kazakhstan uses the Kazakhstani tenge (KZT), trading at roughly 2.9 KRW per KZT 1. ATMs in Almaty and Astana accept foreign cards (Visa and Mastercard). No mandatory vaccinations. Kazakhstan has a growing Korean community, descendants of the Koryo-saram (ethnic Koreans deported to Central Asia in 1937), concentrated in Almaty and surrounding areas. Winter in Astana drops to minus 20 to minus 30 Celsius from December to February. Yandex Go (ride-hailing) is the dominant taxi app.

AREX (Airport Railroad Express) runs two services from Seoul Station: the Direct Train (43 min, ₩11,000, reserved seats) and the All-Stop train (66 min, ₩4,550, unreserved). Both trains serve T1 first, then T2; confirm which terminal your airline uses before boarding.Limousine buses depart from major Seoul neighborhoods and hotels (₩16,000–18,000, 60–90 min depending on traffic). KAL and LIMOUSINE services are reliable. Taxis from central Seoul cost ₩65,000–80,000 and take 60–90 minutes. Deluxe (black) taxis are pricier but English-speaking drivers are more common.
