US passport holders need a visa to enter the Central African Republic. Apply at the CAR Embassy in Washington, D.C. before departure. There is no eVisa or visa on arrival for US nationals. The embassy visa is the only path. Single-entry tourist visas are valid for 30 to 90 days depending on the type requested. A letter of invitation from a local contact or hotel in Bangui may be requested. Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory and the certificate is checked at immigration.

No direct flights connect the US to the Central African Republic. Route through Paris (about 6 hours to Bangui M'Poko International Airport on Air France, limited frequency), Addis Ababa (Ethiopian Airlines via connections), or Douala, Cameroon (ASKY or Camair-Co). Total travel time from the US runs 18 to 28 hours depending on routing. The Central African Republic uses the Central African CFA franc (XAF), pegged to the euro at 655.957 XAF per EUR 1, trading at roughly 600 XAF per $1. Cash is the primary payment method. ATMs are scarce even in Bangui. Bring euros or US dollars to exchange at banks.

IAH has no direct rail link to downtown Houston. The IAH Express bus runs from Houston Amtrak/Greyhound station via Park & Ride to Terminal C (60–90 min, $1.25 with METRO Q card). This is the only transit option; Houston's rail network does not reach the airport.Taxis from downtown Houston cost $50–70 and take 40–60 minutes. Ride-hails (Uber, Lyft) are typically $35–55. IAH sits 23 miles north of downtown on the North Freeway (I-45); traffic is heavy during morning and evening rush. Remote economy parking lots serve all terminals via shuttle.
