Tokyo to Dublin (HND–DUB) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Japanese passport holders enter Ireland visa-free for up to 90 days. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, so Irish stays do not count toward Schengen limits, and Schengen visas do not cover Ireland.

At immigration, an officer will stamp your passport with the permitted length of stay (up to 90 days). Have your return ticket, accommodation details, and evidence of funds accessible. For stays beyond 90 days, register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) or the local immigration registration office within 90 days of arrival. Registration costs EUR 300 and requires proof of purpose (work permit, study enrollment, or financial self-sufficiency).

Direct flights from Tokyo Narita to Dublin run about 12 hours 30 minutes on Aer Lingus. Connections through London, Helsinki, or Paris add 3 to 5 hours. Ireland uses the euro (not the British pound, despite proximity to the UK). No mandatory vaccinations. Leap cards (EUR 5 deposit) work on Dublin Bus, DART, Luas trams, and commuter rail. If crossing to Northern Ireland (part of the UK), no passport control exists on the land border, but you are technically entering the UK. Note that Ireland drives on the left side.

Keikyu Line from Shinagawa reaches Haneda in 13 minutes (¥310). Tokyo Monorail from Hamamatsucho takes 15–22 minutes (¥500). Both run frequently from 5am to midnight. Haneda's central location makes it by far the most convenient Tokyo airport.Taxis from central Tokyo cost ¥3,500–5,500 depending on destination and traffic. Limousine buses serve major hotels and stations (¥600–1,100). Ride-shares (GO, S.RIDE) are growing in Japan. The airport is 14km from central Tokyo, significantly closer than Narita.

Airlink 747 coaches depart from outside both terminals every 10–15 minutes to the city centre (€7 one-way). Dublin Bus routes 16 and 41 are cheaper (€3.10 with Leap card) but slower, taking 45–70 minutes. Taxis are metered; expect €25–40 to the city centre depending on traffic and time of day.

Rental car desks are located in both terminal buildings with a large multi-storey car park adjacent. For north-side city destinations, the airport is relatively quick via the Port Tunnel; south-side journeys add considerable time during peak hours.

Temperate oceanic climate with mild, wet weather year-round. Summers (June–August) are cool and frequently overcast, with highs of 17–21°C. Winters are mild (3–9°C) with frequent rain but rarely frost or snow. Fog can affect operations in autumn and winter, particularly early mornings.

Wind is the primary disruption risk. Atlantic storms from October through March can cause ground stops and diverts. Pack a waterproof layer regardless of season; dry, sunny days occur but rarely in long stretches.
