Tokyo to Copenhagen (HND–CPH) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Japanese passport holders enter Denmark visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen zone. You need proof of onward travel and sufficient funds for your stay.

At immigration, your passport is stamped on first entry into the Schengen area. The 90-day limit applies to total time in all 27 Schengen countries combined, not just Denmark. If you have already spent time in other Schengen countries on the same trip, subtract those days. For stays beyond 90 days, apply for a residence permit through the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) before your visa-free period expires.

Direct flights from Tokyo Narita to Copenhagen run about 11 hours 30 minutes on Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). Denmark uses the Danish krone (DKK), trading at roughly 7.0 DKK per $1 or 7.46 DKK per EUR 1. Card payments are accepted everywhere, and many shops do not handle cash at all. No mandatory vaccinations. Copenhagen's metro runs 24/7, and a single ticket costs DKK 24 (about $3.40). The Copenhagen Card (DKK 489 for 48 hours) covers public transit and 80+ museums and attractions.

Keikyu Line from Shinagawa reaches Haneda in 13 minutes (¥310). Tokyo Monorail from Hamamatsucho takes 15–22 minutes (¥500). Both run frequently from 5am to midnight. Haneda's central location makes it by far the most convenient Tokyo airport.Taxis from central Tokyo cost ¥3,500–5,500 depending on destination and traffic. Limousine buses serve major hotels and stations (¥600–1,100). Ride-shares (GO, S.RIDE) are growing in Japan. The airport is 14km from central Tokyo, significantly closer than Narita.

The Metro M2 runs every 4–6 minutes from the airport station to central Copenhagen (15 min, DKK 36 on Rejsekort). DSB regional trains depart for Copenhagen Central Station (13 min) and continue to Malmö (Sweden) via the Øresund Bridge (35 min total from airport). Taxis from arrivals to the city centre cost DKK 250–350; Uber also operates.Terminal 3 (international) and Terminal 2 (domestic/Schengen) are connected by a covered walkway. Rental car desks are in Terminal 3 arrivals. CPH is also a ferry hub; routes to Oslo (DFDS) and Bornholm depart from Copenhagen's harbour, accessible via city transit.

Temperate maritime climate. Winters (November–February) are cold and frequently overcast at −2 to 5°C with rain, sleet, and occasional snow. Copenhagen is better prepared for winter operations than many European cities, but heavy snowfall still causes delays. Fog is a seasonal disruption risk, particularly October through January.

Summers (June–August) are mild and pleasant at 18–24°C with long daylight hours and generally good flying conditions. Wind from the southwest can be strong year-round. CPH has a crosswind reputation. Spring and autumn are transitional and variable.
