Finland is part of the US Visa Waiver Program. Finnish passport holders can enter the United States for up to 90 days for tourism or business by obtaining an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) before departure. The ESTA costs $21 and is valid for 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. Apply at least 72 hours before departure.

You must hold an e-passport (biometric chip). Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay. Travelers who have visited Iraq, Syria, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, or Cuba after March 2011 may be ineligible and need a B1/B2 visa instead.

Taxis are available at the curb ($30–40 to Raleigh).GoTriangle Route 100 ($2.25) is a budget option to downtown Raleigh and Durham; check hours before relying on it for evening or early-morning flights. Rental car desks are in the terminal buildings with cars in the adjacent garage. Chapel Hill is 20–25 minutes via US-15-501.

Humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild but variable winters. Summer (June–August) temperatures reach 33–37°C with high humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent and can cause ground holds. The region sits in a tornado risk corridor during spring (April–May).

Winter (December–February) is generally mild at 2–12°C. The Piedmont of North Carolina experiences ice storms. Freezing rain events, common every 1–2 years, are the primary disruption risk. Snow is lighter than areas further north, but ice can be severe. Autumn (September–November) is the most operationally stable season.
