Dublin to Stockholm (DUB–ARN) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Irish passport holders enter Sweden visa-free for unlimited stays as EU citizens. No fee, no advance application. A valid Irish passport is required. Ireland is not in the Schengen Area, so there is passport control on arrival from Dublin, but EU citizens are processed quickly.

For stays beyond 3 months, register your right of residence with the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket). Registration is free and can be done online or in person. After that, register with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to obtain a personnummer (personal identity number), which is essential for banking, healthcare, phone contracts, and daily life. Bring proof of employment, self-employment, studies, or sufficient resources plus health insurance. Getting a personnummer takes 2 to 8 weeks.

Direct flights from Dublin to Stockholm run about 2 hours 40 minutes on Ryanair and SAS. Gothenburg has seasonal service. Sweden uses the Swedish krona (SEK), trading at roughly 11.2 SEK per EUR 1. Sweden is nearly cashless; many businesses, including buses and some restaurants, do not accept cash at all. Swish (mobile payment app) requires a Swedish bank account and personnummer. No vaccination requirements. Irish driving licenses are valid for short stays; residents must exchange within 1 year.

Dublin Bus route 747 (Airlink) runs from the city centre (O'Connell Street) to the airport in 30–50 minutes, costing €7 one-way or €12 return. DART rail does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station requires a bus connection. Ride-shares from the city centre typically cost €20–35 depending on traffic.

The M50 and M1 motorways feed into the airport; short-term parking in Terminal 1 or 2 costs from €4/30 min, while long-stay lots (P3/P4) are significantly cheaper for multi-day trips. Allow extra time during morning and evening rush hours on the M50.

Arlanda Express (SEK 280–320) to Stockholm Central in 18 minutes. Departures every 15 minutes from platforms in the terminal. The Pendeltåg (SEK 145 including airport supplement) takes 40 minutes and departs from Arlanda Central station, a short walk or free shuttle from the terminals.Taxis to central Stockholm: SEK 600–800. Uber: SEK 400–600. Several rental car brands operate from ARN. Flygbussarna coaches serve Uppsala (1h, SEK 120) and other regional cities. The airport is 45km north of Stockholm.

Subarctic maritime climate. Winters (December–February) are cold at −7–2°C with reliable snowfall. ARN is well-equipped for winter operations with heated jet bridges and continuous de-icing capability, but major snowstorms still cause delays. Daylight is very limited. December averages fewer than 7 hours.

Summers (June–August) are mild and long at 18–24°C with up to 19 hours of daylight. Operations are very stable. Fog can form on calm, clear autumn nights (September–November). Spring snow in April is not unusual. Pack thermal layers for any winter visit.
