Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Italy. Apply through VFS Global centres in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh). Required documents include a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the Schengen departure date with two blank pages, completed application form, two passport photos (35x45mm), travel medical insurance with EUR 30,000 minimum coverage, confirmed round-trip flight itinerary, hotel reservations for each night of the stay, bank statements for the last 3 months (roughly EUR 80 to 100 per day), income tax returns, employment letter with salary and leave approval, and a detailed day-by-day itinerary. If Italy is the main destination (most nights spent), apply at the Italian mission regardless of which Schengen country you enter first.

Direct flights from Delhi to Rome Fiumicino run about 8 hours on Air India and ITA Airways. Delhi to Milan Malpensa is about 8 hours 15 minutes. Mumbai connects via Middle Eastern hubs (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi) in 10 to 13 hours total. Italy uses the euro. No mandatory vaccinations. The Leonardo Express train from Rome Fiumicino to Termini Station takes 32 minutes for EUR 14. Milan Malpensa Express to Cadorna Station takes 36 minutes for EUR 13. Validate your train ticket at the platform machines before boarding, or face a EUR 50 fine.

Delhi Metro Airport Express runs from New Delhi Railway Station to T3 in 18–20 minutes (₹60 one-way). From Shivaji Stadium (central Delhi) it takes 24 minutes. The line has four stations: New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, and IGI Airport (T3). T1 (domestic) is not directly served; take the metro to T3 and the free airport bus shuttle to T1.Prepaid taxis from the terminal use a metered system with fixed rates; central Delhi costs ₹400–600. Ola and Uber operate widely and are often cheaper. Auto-rickshaws are not permitted on the expressway.

Malpensa Express trains depart Terminal 1 every 30 minutes to Milano Cadorna (45 min, €13) and Milano Centrale (52 min, €13). Terminal 2 passengers must take the free inter-terminal shuttle to reach the train. Taxis from Terminal 1 charge a fixed rate of around €100 to central Milan; pre-booked private transfers can be slightly cheaper.

Rental car desks are located in Terminal 1's arrivals area with a separate multi-storey car park. The A8 and A26 motorways give good access to the broader Lombardy and Piedmont regions.

Humid subtropical/continental climate on the Po Plain. Summers (June–August) are hot and muggy at 28–34°C, with afternoon thunderstorms that can produce short but sharp ground delays. Winters (November–February) are cold, damp, and foggy at 0–7°C. Fog is the most significant disruption risk and can persist for days, causing diversions to Turin or Bergamo.

Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant but bring variable rain. Po Valley fog is notoriously dense. Check conditions carefully for November through January travel.
