Mexican passport holders flying to Canada can apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if they hold a valid US non-immigrant visa or have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years. The eTA costs CAD 7 and is processed within minutes. It covers air travel only.
If you don't meet those conditions, you need a Canadian visitor visa instead. Approved visitor visas are typically multiple-entry, valid for up to 10 years. The eTA does not apply to land or sea crossings. Those require a visitor visa regardless.
ADO buses run from downtown Cancún bus terminal to the airport for MXN 102 (about USD $5) in 20–25 minutes. The Tren Maya (Maya Train) opened a station at CUN Airport (Terminal 4), connecting to the broader Yucatán rail network. Taxis from the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) cost MXN 350–550 (USD $17–28) depending on the zone.Authorized taxis from the airport are sold by ticket inside the terminal; agree on the fare before leaving the building to avoid inflated street prices. Uber is blocked from airport pick-ups by local taxi concessions; use the authorised taxi stand. Car rental is available at all four terminals.
The Canada Line runs from the airport to Waterfront/downtown in 26 minutes for CAD $4.45 on Compass card. Trains depart every 6–8 minutes from the International Terminal station (basement level). Taxis queue outside arrivals; metered fares to downtown are CAD $35–45. Uber and Lyft have a designated pick-up zone.Rental car desks are in the terminal. Temperate oceanic climate. One of the mildest in Canada. Winters (November–March) are wet and overcast at 2–8°C. Snow is infrequent at sea level, but when it does fall, the city struggles and the airport can see delays. Fog in winter and early spring is a more consistent disruption risk. Summers (June–August) are warm and dry at 20–27°C with very little rain.
Wildfire smoke from BC and Alberta can reduce visibility at the airport during August and September. Pack rain gear for autumn through spring. Summers are dry and clear.
