Delta's de-icing operation at MSP is among the largest in the US, but heavy blizzards cause ground stops and cascading delays. Wind chill below −30°C occurs multiple times each winter.
Summers are warm and pleasant (22–30°C) with occasional severe thunderstorms in June–August. Spring brings tornado risk in the broader region. MSP has a strong snow operations record.
