Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Switzerland. Apply at the Swiss Embassy or through VFS Global centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, or Jalandhar. A short-stay tourist visa (Type C, up to 90 days) costs EUR 80 (about INR 7,200) for adults, EUR 40 for children aged 6 to 12. Required documents include a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned Schengen exit date with two blank pages, completed application form, two photos (35x45mm), travel medical insurance covering EUR 30,000 minimum, round-trip flight reservation, proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or host invitation with Einladung form from a Swiss resident), bank statements for the last 3 months, income tax returns for 2 to 3 years, employment letter with leave approval, and a detailed day-by-day travel itinerary. Switzerland is not an EU member but is part of the Schengen Area, so the visa covers travel to all 29 Schengen countries.

No direct flights connect India to Switzerland. Connections through Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Doha, or major European hubs to Zurich or Geneva run 9 to 13 hours total. Swiss International Air Lines operates via partner hubs. Switzerland uses the Swiss franc (CHF), trading at roughly 89 CHF per $100. Euros are accepted at many tourist locations but change is given in francs. No mandatory vaccinations. Swiss trains connect Zurich airport to the city center in 10 minutes for CHF 6.80.

Mumbai Metro Line 1 (Versova–Ghatkopar) does not serve the airport directly.Currently, Mumbai Local Train (Western Line to Andheri station) plus an auto-rickshaw or taxi to the terminal is a low-cost route (₹15–50 for train, ₹80–120 for rickshaw).App-based cabs (Ola, Uber) cost ₹300–600 from South Mumbai or Bandra depending on traffic. The airport is 30km from Nariman Point/Churchgate; traffic is severe most of the day. Midnight–5am is the most reliable travel window. Black-and-yellow taxis are metered and less comfortable than app cabs.

SBB trains from the airport station (below Check-in 2) to Zurich HB take 10 minutes and run every 10–15 minutes. Long-distance intercity trains to Geneva, Basel, Bern, and Lucerne depart directly from the airport station; Zurich Airport is one of the best-connected airports in Europe for onward rail travel. Taxis queue outside arrivals; fares to the city centre are CHF 55–75.Rental car desks are located in the arrivals area. Swiss customs exit is prompt for EU/Schengen arrivals. The Meet & Greet area is directly adjacent to baggage reclaim.

Temperate continental climate. Winters (November–February) are cold and frequently foggy on the Swiss Plateau; fog (Hochnebel) can persist for days and is the most common cause of delays, with the airport above the fog layer on clearer days but below it on others. Snow does occur but is well managed. Temperatures range from −2 to 5°C.

Summers (June–August) are warm at 22–28°C with afternoon thunderstorms that can be intense but brief. Spring and autumn are mild and variable. Hochnebel fog season (October–January) is the primary operational risk to plan around.
