Indian passport holders can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VoA) at major Indonesian airports and seaports, including Bali (DPS), Jakarta (CGK), Surabaya (SUB), and Yogyakarta (JOG). The VoA costs IDR 500,000 (about $31), allows a 30-day stay, and can be extended once for another 30 days at a local immigration office for IDR 500,000. Payment is by card or cash. Alternatively, apply for an eVoA online at molina.imigrasi.go.id before departure to skip the airport queue, same fee.

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months with at least one blank page. Bring a return or onward ticket. Immigration officers occasionally ask for proof of accommodation and sufficient funds. The VoA extension requires visiting a local immigration office (kantor imigrasi) at least 7 working days before the initial 30 days expire. The process takes 4 to 7 working days and requires the passport, extension fee, a sponsor letter from a local or hotel, and passport photos.

Direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Bali and Jakarta run 7 to 8 hours on Air India, IndiGo, Garuda Indonesia, and Batik Air. Budget connections through Kuala Lumpur or Singapore add 2 to 4 hours on AirAsia or Scoot. Indonesia uses the Indonesian rupiah (IDR), with roughly 16,200 IDR per $1. ATMs at Bali and Jakarta airports dispense IDR. No mandatory vaccinations for Indian arrivals, but yellow fever vaccination is required if coming from an endemic country. Bali airport has a prepaid taxi counter (IDR 150,000 to 350,000 to main tourist areas). Grab (the Southeast Asian ride-hail app) works across Indonesian cities.

Mumbai Metro Line 1 (Versova–Ghatkopar) does not serve the airport directly.Currently, Mumbai Local Train (Western Line to Andheri station) plus an auto-rickshaw or taxi to the terminal is a low-cost route (₹15–50 for train, ₹80–120 for rickshaw).App-based cabs (Ola, Uber) cost ₹300–600 from South Mumbai or Bandra depending on traffic. The airport is 30km from Nariman Point/Churchgate; traffic is severe most of the day. Midnight–5am is the most reliable travel window. Black-and-yellow taxis are metered and less comfortable than app cabs.

The airport rail link runs to BNI City Station in central Jakarta (45 minutes, IDR 70,000-100,000). The station is a short walk from Sudirman MRT for onward connections. Trains depart every 30-60 minutes. From arrivals, follow signs to the Soekarno-Hatta train station connected to Terminals 2 and 3. Terminal 1 passengers take the free Skytrain shuttle first.

Grab and Gojek have designated pickup points at each terminal. Expect IDR 150,000-250,000 to central Jakarta and 45-120 minutes depending entirely on traffic. Airport taxis from the official counters cost slightly more but avoid surge pricing. DAMRI buses serve Gambir, Blok M, and several other hubs (IDR 40,000-60,000). Avoid metered taxis that approach you inside the terminal; use the queue outside.

Jakarta is tropical year-round with temperatures locked between 24 and 32 degrees C. There is no cold season. The wet season runs October through May with the heaviest rain in January and February (up to 300mm/month). Afternoon downpours are intense and can flood low-lying roads for hours. The dry season (June-September) brings sunnier days and lower humidity, with August seeing as little as 35mm of rain.

Humidity sits at 75-85% year-round, peaking in the wet season. Thunderstorms during the wet months can cause arrival delays. Pack light, breathable clothing no matter when you visit. A compact umbrella and waterproof bag liner are useful October through March. The dry season is the more comfortable window, with clearer skies and temperatures that feel a few degrees cooler thanks to lower moisture.
