Bangkok to Oslo (Gardermoen) (BKK–OSL) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Thai passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Norway. Apply at the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok or VFS Global center. Norway is in the Schengen area but not in the EU. The visa allows stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area. Required documents include passport photos, bank statements, flight bookings, hotel reservations, and travel insurance covering at least EUR 30,000. The fee is EUR 80 for adults. Norway has a significant Thai community, particularly in rural areas and smaller cities. If visiting a spouse or family member with Norwegian residency, include the family member's residency documentation and a signed invitation letter. Family visit applications can qualify for fee waivers in specific circumstances. The Thai-Norwegian community is one of the largest non-European immigrant groups in Norway.

Direct flights from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Oslo are not available year-round. Route through a European hub: Copenhagen (1 hour 30 minutes to Oslo), Stockholm (1 hour to Oslo), or Amsterdam (2 hours to Oslo). Thai Airways and SAS fly BKK to Copenhagen or Stockholm with short connections onward. Total travel time from Bangkok runs 13 to 16 hours. Norway uses the Norwegian krone (NOK), trading at roughly 3.1 NOK per THB 1. Card payments work everywhere and many businesses do not accept cash. Norway is expensive: a restaurant meal costs NOK 200 to NOK 400 (THB 65 to THB 130), a beer runs NOK 90 to NOK 120 (THB 29 to THB 39).

Airport Rail Link (ARL) runs from Phaya Thai station to Suvarnabhumi in 30 minutes (฿45 City Line; ฿90–130 Express, though Express service is often suspended). Trains run 6am to midnight. Transfer at Makkasan for MRT or Phaya Thai for BTS Skytrain.Metered taxis cost ฿250–400 from central Bangkok plus expressway tolls (฿50–75); expect 40–90 minutes depending on traffic. Avoid non-metered taxis; insist on the meter. Ride-share apps (Grab) are widely used and typically cost ฿200–350.

Flytoget trains depart from the station below the arrivals hall every 10 minutes, reaching Oslo Central Station in 19 minutes (NOK 230-252). Buy from the yellow machines on the platform or tap your card on board. Vy regional trains leave from the same platform and take 23-25 minutes for NOK 129. Both trains share the track through Romerike and only diverge on timing and price.

Flybussen coaches stop at the terminal exit and serve central hotels and bus hubs (NOK 259 pre-booked, 45-55 minutes). Taxis queue outside arrivals with fixed-price zones posted at the rank. Expect NOK 700-1200 to central Oslo depending on your destination and time of day. Car rental desks are in the arrivals hall with vehicles in the adjacent parking structure.

Oslo has cold winters and mild summers. December through February averages -7 to -1 degrees C with short daylight hours (the sun sets by 15:10 in mid-December). Snow is reliable from November onward, and icy roads are standard. Summers (June-August) bring long days and highs of 18-22 degrees C with 18+ hours of daylight around the solstice. Rain peaks in late summer and autumn at 65-90mm per month.

Spring thaws through March and April with rapid warming into May (8-16 degrees C). Autumn cools fast after September, dropping to 3 degrees C by November. Annual rainfall totals about 830mm, spread fairly evenly but slightly heavier in summer and fall. Pack thermal layers and waterproof outerwear for winter. Summer visitors still need a jacket for cool evenings and a rain shell for afternoon showers.
