Visa & Entry

German passport holders can get a tourist eVisa through the Visit Saudi portal (visa.visitsaudi.com). The eVisa costs SAR 480 (around EUR 120) including insurance and is valid for 1 year with multiple entries. Each stay can be up to 90 days, with a total of 180 days per year. Processing takes minutes for most applicants.

You can also get a visa on arrival at Saudi airports, same cost and terms as the eVisa. Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity. There is no dress code requirement at the airport, but modest clothing is expected in public. Alcohol is prohibited throughout the country. During Hajj season, tourist visas do not grant access to Mecca or Medina without a separate Hajj/Umrah permit.

Getting to BER

The Airport Express (FEX) train runs non-stop from Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof to BER in 30 minutes (€3.80 with ABC zone ticket, or included in Berlin day passes). S-Bahn S9 also connects the airport to central Berlin with stops, taking about 45–50 minutes for the same fare.Taxis from Mitte cost €40–55 (35–50 min). Ride-shares (Uber) run €30–45. The A113 motorway provides direct access from the city ring. Parking from €10/day in the P4/P5 lots with terminal walkway. BER opened in 2020 after years of delays; infrastructure is new and well-organized.

Getting from JED

The Haramain HSR airport station (in the terminal complex) connects to Jeddah city in 15 minutes (SAR 20–25) and onward to Mecca (45 min, SAR 55) and Medina (2h, SAR 105); essential knowledge for Hajj/Umrah travelers.Careem and Uber serve the airport widely; expect SAR 40–80 to central Jeddah, 25–45 minutes. Taxis at the rank run SAR 60–100. Rental car desks are in the arrivals hall. The airport has two main terminals (North and South); confirm which terminal before booking ground transport.

Jeddah Climate

Hot desert climate on the Red Sea coast. Summers (May–September) are brutal at 38–45°C with high humidity from sea proximity, making outdoor exposure extreme. Operational disruptions in summer are more often from sandstorms than temperature alone.

Winter (December–February) is warm and pleasant at 20–28°C. Rare but intense rainfall events (typically October–November) can cause flash flooding and ground stops. Jeddah's drainage infrastructure is limited. The city sits close to sea level; humidity amplifies heat year-round.
