Zurich to Salt Lake City (ZRH–SLC) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Switzerland is part of the US Visa Waiver Program. Swiss passport holders need an approved ESTA to enter the US. Apply at esta.cbp.dhs.gov at least 72 hours before departure. The fee is USD 21. ESTA is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. It allows multiple entries.

ESTA permits stays up to 90 days per visit. You cannot extend or change your immigration status while on ESTA. If denied, you must apply for a B1/B2 visa at the US Embassy in Bern. At the border, CBP officers may ask about your travel purpose, return ticket, and accommodation. Your passport must be valid for the duration of the stay.

Direct SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) trains run from Zurich HB (main station) to the airport station in 10 minutes, departing every 10–15 minutes for CHF 6.80 with a standard zone 1–2 ticket. From other Swiss cities, intercity trains call at Zurich Airport station directly; Basel (65 min), Bern (90 min), Geneva (2h45) all have direct connections. The airport station is integrated beneath the terminal.Taxis from Zurich city centre cost CHF 55–75 and take 15–25 minutes via the A1 motorway. Driving is practical; the terminal has a large multi-storey car park (P1/P2/P3) with short- and long-term rates. Rental cars are on-site.

TRAX Green Line from the airport station (inside the terminal) to downtown Salt Lake City takes 18 minutes ($2.50). Direct service to Intermodal Hub, Temple Square, and University of Utah. Running 5am to 11pm.Ride-shares to downtown cost $15–25. Taxis are available. For ski resorts, ski resort shuttles and Canyon Transportation offer door-to-door service ($40–60 to Park City). Car rental is on-site. The terminal opened in 2020 and is a single, modern facility; efficient to navigate.

Semi-arid continental climate at 1,290m elevation. Winters (November–March) bring regular snow and inversions. Temperature inversions trap cold air and pollution in the Salt Lake Valley, producing dense fog that can close or delay flights for hours. Snow is frequent but usually manageable. Inversions are the real disruption risk.

Summers are hot and dry (32–38°C) with low humidity and good flying weather. Afternoon thunderstorms occur in July and August but are brief. Spring is windy. The Great Salt Lake creates localized weather effects including lake-effect snow on the north side of the Wasatch.
