Warsaw to Zurich (WAW–ZRH) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Polish passport holders enter Switzerland freely under the Schengen agreement. No visa, no border control on flights from Poland, no time limit on stays for EU/EFTA citizens. A valid Polish passport or national ID card is sufficient. Switzerland is in the Schengen zone but not in the EU, which affects work permits but not short-term travel.

SWISS flies direct from Warsaw Chopin (WAW) to Zurich (ZRH) in about 2 hours. LOT also operates Warsaw to Zurich and Geneva (GVA). Wizz Air serves Basel-Mulhouse (BSL) from several Polish cities including Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, and Katowice. EasyJet connects Geneva from Krakow. Switzerland uses the Swiss franc (CHF), trading at roughly 0.94 CHF per EUR 1. Euros are accepted at many shops and restaurants but change is given in francs, often at an unfavorable rate. Withdraw CHF from ATMs for the cleanest exchange.

Card payments work everywhere, even at market stalls and mountain huts. No mandatory vaccinations. Switzerland is expensive: a simple restaurant lunch costs CHF 25 to 35 (EUR 27 to 37), a coffee CHF 4.50 to 5.50. The train from Zurich Airport to Zurich main station (Hauptbahnhof) takes 10 minutes and costs CHF 6.80. From Geneva Airport, the free Unireso ticket (available at machines in the baggage hall) covers public transport to central Geneva for 80 minutes. For longer stays or work, EU citizens must register with the cantonal migration office (Migrationsamt) and obtain a residence permit.

SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail Line S2/S3 connects Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) to WAW in 25 minutes (PLN 4.40 within Zone 1, or PLN 7.00 including Zone 2). Trains depart roughly every 15–30 minutes. The platform is directly below the terminal; no bus transfer needed.Bus lines 175, 188, and N32 (night) serve the city center for PLN 4.40. Taxis cost PLN 40–60 from the center (20–30 min). Uber and Bolt (dominant ride-share in Poland) run PLN 30–50. Parking from PLN 30/day in the remote car park.

SBB trains from the airport station (below Check-in 2) to Zurich HB take 10 minutes and run every 10–15 minutes. Long-distance intercity trains to Geneva, Basel, Bern, and Lucerne depart directly from the airport station; Zurich Airport is one of the best-connected airports in Europe for onward rail travel. Taxis queue outside arrivals; fares to the city centre are CHF 55–75.Rental car desks are located in the arrivals area. Swiss customs exit is prompt for EU/Schengen arrivals. The Meet & Greet area is directly adjacent to baggage reclaim.

Temperate continental climate. Winters (November–February) are cold and frequently foggy on the Swiss Plateau; fog (Hochnebel) can persist for days and is the most common cause of delays, with the airport above the fog layer on clearer days but below it on others. Snow does occur but is well managed. Temperatures range from −2 to 5°C.

Summers (June–August) are warm at 22–28°C with afternoon thunderstorms that can be intense but brief. Spring and autumn are mild and variable. Hochnebel fog season (October–January) is the primary operational risk to plan around.
