Warsaw to Manchester, Greater Manchester (WAW–MAN) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Polish passport holders can enter the United Kingdom visa-free as visitors for up to 6 months. No advance application needed. Passport required (national ID cards are no longer accepted since October 2021, post-Brexit). At the UK border, you may be asked about the purpose of your visit, accommodation, return plans, and funds. Visitor status does not allow employment. Polish citizens with EU Settled Status or Pre-Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme use eGates and retain their right to live and work in the UK.

The UK left the EU in 2020, ending free movement. New visitors cannot work or stay beyond 6 months without a visa. For work, you need a Skilled Worker visa (employer sponsorship required). For study beyond 6 months, apply for a Student visa. The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system is being rolled out for visa-exempt nationalities, but EU citizens including Polish nationals are not yet subject to ETA requirements (as of early 2026). The UK plans to extend ETA to EU nationals in the future.

Direct flights from Warsaw to London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, and Luton run about 2 hours 30 minutes on LOT, BA, Wizz Air, and Ryanair. Routes also operate from Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Katowice, Poznan, and Rzeszow. A large Polish community in the UK (over 900,000) means Polish shops, churches, and services are common in London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Edinburgh. The UK uses the British pound (GBP), trading at roughly 5.2 PLN per GBP 1. No mandatory vaccinations. Oyster or contactless payment works on all London transport.

SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail Line S2/S3 connects Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) to WAW in 25 minutes (PLN 4.40 within Zone 1, or PLN 7.00 including Zone 2). Trains depart roughly every 15–30 minutes. The platform is directly below the terminal; no bus transfer needed.Bus lines 175, 188, and N32 (night) serve the city center for PLN 4.40. Taxis cost PLN 40–60 from the center (20–30 min). Uber and Bolt (dominant ride-share in Poland) run PLN 30–50. Parking from PLN 30/day in the remote car park.

Rail from Manchester Airport station (between Terminals 1/2 and 3, connected by free shuttle bus) to Manchester Piccadilly takes 20 minutes (£4.80 off-peak). Metrolink tram is slower (55 min) but cheaper and connects to suburbs not served by rail. Long-distance trains depart directly from the airport station to Liverpool (55 min), Leeds (80 min), and other northern cities.Taxis from arrivals cost £25–40 to the city centre; Uber operates from a designated zone. The Skylink bus connects all three terminals. Rental car desks are in the terminal buildings.

Temperate maritime climate. Among the wettest of any major UK airport. Rain is possible in any month. Manchester averages over 200 rainy days per year. Winters (November–February) are cool and grey at 3–9°C, with occasional fog delaying operations and infrequent but disruptive snow. Summers are mild at 18–24°C with unpredictable showers.

Wind from the west and southwest is the most common operational disruption. Rare but severe winter ice events can cause significant delays. Pack waterproofs year-round. A warm layer is useful even in August.
