Warsaw to Lisbon (WAW–LIS) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Polish passport holders enter Portugal freely as EU citizens. No visa, no time limit on stays. Bring your Polish passport or national ID card (both work). Portugal is in both the EU and the Schengen area, so flights from Poland are intra-Schengen with no passport control on arrival.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the local Camara Municipal or Servico de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF, now AIMA) office to obtain a registration certificate. This requires proof of employment, self-employment, study enrollment, or sufficient funds. The certificate costs about EUR 15 and confirms your right of residence. EU citizens can live and work in Portugal without a work permit. Portugal's NIF (tax identification number) is needed for banking, renting, and employment, and can be obtained at any Financas office in about 30 minutes.

Direct flights from Warsaw to Lisbon run about 4 hours on TAP Air Portugal, LOT, and Wizz Air. Krakow to Lisbon runs about 4 hours 15 minutes on Ryanair. Porto also has seasonal connections from Poland. Portugal uses the euro. At current rates, EUR 1 equals roughly PLN 4.30. No mandatory vaccinations. Lisbon's Viva Viagem card (EUR 0.50) works on the metro, buses, trams, and ferries, loaded with zapping credit at EUR 1.65 per trip. Porto's Andante card works similarly at EUR 1.55 per zone.

SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail Line S2/S3 connects Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) to WAW in 25 minutes (PLN 4.40 within Zone 1, or PLN 7.00 including Zone 2). Trains depart roughly every 15–30 minutes. The platform is directly below the terminal; no bus transfer needed.Bus lines 175, 188, and N32 (night) serve the city center for PLN 4.40. Taxis cost PLN 40–60 from the center (20–30 min). Uber and Bolt (dominant ride-share in Poland) run PLN 30–50. Parking from PLN 30/day in the remote car park.

Metro Red Line directly from the airport station to central Lisbon in 20–25 minutes (€1.85 single). Most central destinations (Rossio, Baixa-Chiado, Oriente) are reachable within 30 minutes total. Operating hours 6:30am to 1am.Taxis cost €10–15 to the city centre. Uber and Bolt are cheaper still at €8–12. AeroBus to Marquês de Pombal costs €4. The airport is just 7km from the city centre; ground transport is fast by European standards.

Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and sunny (28–35°C) with almost no rain. July and August rarely see any precipitation and offer the most reliable flying weather in Europe. Winters are mild and rainy (8–15°C), with the wettest months December through February.

Flight disruptions are uncommon. Atlantic coastal fog can affect early morning visibility in autumn (October–November). Wind off the Atlantic is persistent year-round and can affect smaller aircraft but rarely disrupts scheduled service.
