Thai passport holders enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 30 days under a bilateral visa exemption. No advance application is needed. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry with at least 2 blank pages. A return or onward ticket may be requested at immigration. There is no cooling-off period, so you can re-enter Vietnam immediately after using the 30-day exemption.

For stays beyond 30 days, apply for an eVisa through evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn before departure. The eVisa costs $25 for a single entry (up to 30 days) or $50 for multiple entries (up to 90 days). Processing takes 3 to 7 working days. The eVisa is accepted at all international airports, land borders, and seaports. If you plan to exit and re-enter Vietnam during a longer trip, the multiple-entry eVisa saves time and money.

Direct flights from Bangkok (BKK or DMK) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) run about 1 hour 45 minutes on VietJet Air, Thai AirAsia, Vietnam Airlines, and Thai Airways. Bangkok to Hanoi (HAN) runs about 2 hours. Multiple daily departures from both Bangkok airports. Vietnam uses the Vietnamese dong (VND), trading at roughly 720 VND per THB 1. ATMs dispense dong in all cities. Card payments work at hotels and larger restaurants but cash dominates at street food stalls, markets, and local shops. Grab is the go-to app for motorbike taxis (GrabBike from VND 15,000, about THB 21) and cars in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
