Polish passport holders enter Italy freely as EU and Schengen zone citizens. No visa, no time limit, no border control. Bring your Polish passport or national ID card. Flights between Poland and Italy are intra-Schengen with no immigration checks.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the local Anagrafe (registry office) within 90 days to obtain a dichiarazione di presenza and an EU citizen residence certificate. You need your passport or ID, a codice fiscale (Italian tax code, obtainable free at any Agenzia delle Entrate office), proof of accommodation, and proof of employment, study, or sufficient funds. EU citizens can live and work in Italy without a permit.

Direct flights from Warsaw to Rome Fiumicino run about 2 hours 30 minutes on LOT, ITA Airways, and Wizz Air. Warsaw to Milan Malpensa runs about 2 hours 15 minutes. Ryanair, Wizz Air, and EasyJet serve routes from Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Katowice, and Poznan to Rome, Milan, Bologna, Naples, Venice, Bari, and Catania. Italy uses the euro, trading at roughly 4.3 PLN per EUR 1. Card payments are standard in cities but some smaller shops and trattorias still prefer cash. No mandatory vaccinations. High-speed trains (Trenitalia Frecciarossa and Italo) connect Rome to Milan in 2 hours 55 minutes, Rome to Naples in 1 hour 10 minutes, and Rome to Florence in 1 hour 30 minutes.

Leonardo Express to Roma Termini (32 min, €14) departs from inside the terminal every 30 minutes. Regional FL1 trains cost €8 and serve Trastevere, Ostiense, and Tiburtina; useful if your accommodation is near those stations.Official taxis (white, metered) from FCO to central Rome (within the Aurelian Walls) have a fixed €50 fare regardless of traffic. Agree on the fixed rate before departure. Ciampino (CIA) handles Ryanair and some charter flights; it is 40 minutes east of Rome by bus and a completely separate airport.

Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and dry (28–36°C, June–August) with little rain and intense sunshine. Heat rarely disrupts flights but can make the terminal uncomfortable. Winters are mild (5–13°C) with rain primarily from November through February. Snow in Rome is rare, occurring once every few years, but when it falls the city and airport are largely unprepared. Even light accumulations cause significant disruption.

Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons (15–23°C). Sirocco winds from the Sahara occasionally bring warm dusty air and reduced visibility in spring. FCO has little fog risk and generally good flying weather compared to northern European hubs.
