Irish passport holders enter Canada visa-free for up to 6 months for tourism or business. An eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required before boarding flights to Canada. The eTA costs CAD 7, is valid for 5 years or until your passport expires, and allows multiple entries. Apply at canada.ca/eta. Most approvals come within minutes, though some take several days. The eTA is not required for land or sea entry from the US.

Passport must be valid for the duration of the intended stay (Canada does not enforce a 6-month validity rule). At the border, CBSA officers may ask about the purpose of your visit, length of stay, accommodation, and ties to Ireland. Have a return ticket accessible. The 6-month stay can sometimes be extended from within Canada by applying online before it expires (processing fee CAD 100). Working Holiday visas under the IEC (International Experience Canada) program are available to Irish citizens aged 18 to 35.

Direct flights from Dublin to Toronto run about 7 hours 30 minutes on Aer Lingus and Air Canada. Dublin to Montreal and Vancouver also have seasonal or year-round direct service. Canada uses the Canadian dollar (CAD), trading at roughly 1.45 CAD per $1 or 1.55 CAD per EUR 1. Card payments are standard everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations. Tipping is expected (15% to 20% at restaurants). Cell phone roaming from Irish carriers is expensive; buy a local SIM at any convenience store for CAD 30 to CAD 50 per month.
